I was talking to a friend the other day, he reckons in general police turn a blind eye to bikes.

It's almost assumed by everyone that bikers are going to be speeding, before I was even interested in bikes I thought that myself.

Obviously if it's a speed trap, you gon' get...

I find the police rarely bother to turn around if I pass them way over the limit, what do you think?

From my experience, in the Thames Valley area they arnt too harsh on them. They don't seem to fussed with exhausts, plates etc.

My logic would be that since coppers are people, and most people don't have a clue about bikes, then a lot of coppers won't either. Even traffic police who don't have bikes. I could be wrong - I'm just going by the mindset I had about motorbikes before I got one myself. In my opinion bikers have always been kind of individual and I knew they would take often take sensible liberties, so I let common sense prevail when they cut through gaps etc (which I now know is 'easing the flow of traffic'). Speeding is a different thing, but other little niggly bits, namely filtering and manoeuvring violations, are probably often overlooked.

Last time I was pulled they checked the bike over with a fine toothed comb.

I've only been pulled twice in 7 years though.

Round here it must be feather in their cap if they get a biker?

Always hanging around Great Bentley on a Wednesday evening Evil or Very Mad
And they sit in they slip-roads of the A14 with the engines running Twisted Evil

I`ve been followed twice? but they didn't stop me, however I wasn't doing anything wrong in the first place.

Coppers are coppers and If you delude yourself that they wont nick you, you`re a bigger fool than you think?
Why give them a reason in the first place.

Doesn't seem to be a big problem in London, I guess the police have far more pressing issues to deal with, and a much larger workload than in other counties.

In central scotland ive done a few risky things whilst the police were a few cars behind or on the other side of a duel carrigeway, one of they things being a flat out accelration test from 1st to 3rd on my fireblade. had a traffic car behind me with a tiny plate fitted and the muffler removed from my exhaust, they dot seem to bother tbh lol

I've never been bothered by them. Got pulled once in 5 years of riding and that was cos me plate was covered in mud. The plate was under sized at the time and he just says sort it out and off I went. I never sorted it out, as you do Middle Finger

I once went about 100mph, limit there was like 50, I was ''racing'' with other lad on a bike, the cop bike pulled us over, officer told to the other mate to bend his licence plat back (he had it bended up so no one could read it), then the police officer said alright and went off. Smile

Depends a lot on location i think. South-west bristol way rarely see anyone being pulled in the city but i think thats because they expect the bikers to whizz away filtering and it'd be a nightmare to keep up even with the blues n twos.

In the country roads though when the coppers are there, even waiting quite often they'll pull for anything they can, even mass-pulling bike groups to inspect bikes Rolling Eyes

I've had my full licence for a year and 8 months, I'm a young rider (18) And I have not been pulled over once.

I also speed all the time, in fact I can't remember the last time I sat at the speed limit for an extended period of time.

Police here just seem pretty laid back I guess.

I think it depends on the type of police. My mates a copper in Crewe and he told me that as a standard bobby in a panda car they very rarely chase bikes with the blues and twos on. Basically they have to ask permission to chase you from the seagrant on duty but also justify ANY incident they may have whilst travelling under blue lights.
The risk Vs reward for his job just isn't worth it.

Hi

Over the years I would say that the police have had far more unwelcome interest in bikes than in cars.

But quite possibly it is regional. Living round southern Hampshire years ago, if you were on a bike you were going to get pulled pretty much constantly. Moving to the midlands the interest in pulling bikes reduced massively.

All the best

Keith

The only time I've had any reason to deal with the police as a biker, has been after my two crashes (both non fault) and the cops I've dealt with have been really sound. One of them even went out of his way to sort out a recovery vehicle to drop my bike off at my local bike shop, as I was carted off in the ambulance. Thumbs Up

Only ever been followed once and never been pulled, even though I've expected to be on a few "oh shit" occasions when I've suddenly noticed them while going a fair bit over the speed limit Embarassed

The again....this is the Isle of Man, so if they can't be bike friendly here, we're all doomed Very Happy

I believe police in Birmingham turn a blind eye to bikers, I have my reasons but don't wish to post them online Smile

Agree with the Midlands bit. West Mercia seem to have no interesting in having a marked or unmarked traffic presence, so far as I can tell. There's an unmarked RT and an unmarked 320d, that seems to be about it. Never been pulled around here but I have in Wales and on the Wirral.

Yorkshire and humber police are sound, depends on on road situation and traffic conditions, if they decide to pull you or not, car or bike.
Unless your just out and out reckless.

I've only ever had one encounter in two years riding and that was on the CG. Riding around town for no real reason other than to practice at 3am. Got followed for a bit and then the patrol car wandered off.

Yorkshire and Oxfordshire.

Went through a red light 1 second after it changed when a police car was behind me last week. I was tired, and watching the junction too much.

No pull! Hanging my head in 'yep I screwed up' may have helped, or they didn't see. Or couldn't be bothered.

Merseyside, no pulls in 2 years.
