 |
|
The time has finally come to sell my GSX-R.
I need the practicality of a car, and it's one or the other. Please don't berate me too much, it's a decision made with head not heart, and I will definitely be getting another bike within the year! However, I don't think I will go down the sports bike route this time, because
a) What I will be able to afford in a year's time will not compare in the slightest to what I've rode for the past two years, and
b) there's a whole world of bikes out there!
I'm thinking, either super moto/adventure or a more street orientated bike with wide bars?
Really open to suggestions here, as once the Gixxer has sold my leftover earnings will be going into a bike fund pot, and I'll have a while to be convinced!
Anyway, here's the ad for my Gixxer https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=151073719244
Without a doubt the greatest motorbike I have ever owned, ridden and had the pleasure of seeing every time I open my garage. The power is phenomenal and the handling faultless. Whoever it goes to is in for a treat! ____________________ Journalist, student, egotist.

Buy a much cheaper bike that is also cheap on insurance. It would be nowhere near as good as the current one, but at least you would stay on two wheels.
Some sporty bikes work perfectly as tourers and all round bikes i.e. ZX6R J1/J2/A1P, Thundercats... all cheap to buy and insure. That's what I did. I also have a car. So for me it's a win-win ____________________ Current Bike: Yamaha XSR900 Previous bikes: Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade, Kawasaki ZX-6R Ninja, Aprilia RS125 2-stroke |

Sorry, nobody should know that I'm selling my bike on a forum I've been a member of for over five years and contributed pretty well to. Only need to see my sig to find that one out.
Maggot, I can't afford to buy a car and a bike at this moment in time, but can afford to buy a bike in the future.
I was thinking of potentially going back to a CBR6F as it was a fantastic bike, but I kind of want a new biking 'experience', if you get where I'm coming from?

Well it's not is it, because I primarily hoped it to be the start of a discussion as to what bikes I should start looking at to give me an aim, a goal with saving that I can look toward. You know, because talking about buying bikes fits under 'General Bike Chat', a sub section of the forum I've been helping people on for years make different decisions. Stop being a cock, it's not as if I'm a spammer or a random account posting with an excuse for an advert. ____________________ Journalist, student, egotist.

Feel a bit sorry for OP to be honest come on guys
As you're going to have the car for bad weather and i presume wouldn't bother commuting on the bike through all weathers having that,
might as well go for something nice that you can take out on the sunnier days
As you said though with the budget lacking, either a nice flashy 125, or a not so-nice but useable old sport bike maybe
Depends how you'd be riding at that point really i guess |

I didn't make the thread to plug my bike but fuck me if I'm not allowed to mention my motorbike being sold then sorry to the internet police
Derivative, the bike will hopefully sell for around 4k. This leaves me with 2,300 to buy a car and 1,700 to insure it. Where did I mention I was buying a new car?
In a year's time I will have been able to save up a certain amount. That amount will not be 4k. It will probably be closer to 2k. Therefore, I will be able to buy a bike that doesn't compare in the slightest to the Gixxer I've had the pleasure of owning. Comprende?
What I'm saying is, I would rather explore a new avenue than buy for example, a 2002 GSX-R 750, because I would inevitably regard it as worse than my old bike. My new bike will accompany my car as opposed to having a bike exclusively, which I have done for the past six years, and quite frankly I'm sick of it for a whole host of reasons - the shit weather, the lack of practicality and the unsuitability for lugging things I need professionally around with me. These negatives won't exist when I can have a bike as a luxury as well as a car, i.e. next year.
And the question is... what bike?!
I was hoping BCF would inspire me to look at different bikes as it has done previously instead of flaming my OP like children. ____________________ Journalist, student, egotist.

Eitematt.. there's no way in hell I would get a 125, I took my brother's Yamaha R-125 out to see if I found it fun.. I was back in twenty minutes. The power it has is pathetic
On the other suggestion, going around Europe is exactly the sort of thing I would like to do on my new bike - I wouldn't take the Gixxer because it was my only mode of transport and if something bad happened I would be fucked, but the future sees me being able to have a bike in bits in my garage and it not affect my life ____________________ Journalist, student, egotist.

Thats why i want another bike but cant afford it and love the zx6 too much at the moment to trade up/down.
I have done europe twice on it, but that was last year and before, this year i physically couldnt do it as i'm starting to get knee/hand issues from regular riding as it is let alone a slog around europe.
I wanted one of those mainly as its good for luggage once set up, single cylinder, good visability and just generally feels like a nice bike to tour on really - but as said, i would have the street credability of a blue peter presenter....
My last bike was a yzf 125 they're not that bad are they ... or maybe that was it was all i was used to |
