This maybe useful to some of you when your lid decides to commit suicide whilst sat on a completely flat surface.
First off, find the area that is broken

Might as well do this one as well

Right, with the areas found the next job is sorting out the ache, chances are your lid is suffering banging headache, so just shove a box of paracetamol down it's throat

Next we swab the area, note quilted and probably sterile.

Now onto the technical part,
https://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d112/pitslayer/IMG_20130629_143936_zps1cd8eaf5.jpg

Clearly this wasn't enough
https://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d112/pitslayer/IMG_20130629_144017_zps7f2ac724.jpg

Now I moved onto the little one

Now looking at it, they are antiseptic, extra padding but the best bit of it is I can go roller blading and swimming and not worry about the repairs coming off.

In more serious terms......think I really need a new lid now Laughing

I've been out all day on the bike, just thought I would have a go at fixing the old lid, I figure that the pads in the repair should add extra bounce, consider it a second safety barrier

Yeah, I found that funny too.

Its made me think of a question.

Is it technically possibly to make a new lid? I mean. if you had the correct shaped mould you could make one out of carbon fibre sheets. As long as you do it properly you will have one hell of a strong helmet. Would that be legal?

Legality wise for road use it has to be approved in some way shape or form

Or is of a type manufactured for use by persons on motor cycles which by virtue of its shape, material and construction could reasonably be expected to afford to the wearer a degree of protection from accidental injury similar to or greater than that provided by a helmet of a type prescribed by [the actual approved ones].

The thing to note is that that BSI 6658:1985 is the only explicitly approved standard. ECE 22.05, which you'll find on essentially all helmets, is only implicitly approved because it "offers in use equivalent levels of safety, suitability and fitness for purpose", which is much the same as the clause above.

Personally I'd argue that the shell isn't as important as the polystyrene bowl inside. <buckethelmet.jpg>

nah just plaster it up with evostick or araldite ..... bit of fibreglass matting on top and paint it with HAMERITE ....... be sound !
Oh yes and a bit of duck tape just to be on the safe side..... Its the bust vizor that really causes a problem , thats if you can find which bit of the ditch it landed in ,, thought oa bit of cling film tightly bound round it ought to do the job as a get you home .......
