Yo,

I have a Media Project that needs doing! And fast!

I was considering doing a road saftey video - based on the ones already created by Think!. I've thought of three main focusses...

a) Looking out for motorcyclists (/each other)
--Like the now you see him now you don't advert.
--Targeted both at motorcyclists and car drivers

b) Drinking and Driving/Riding
--Kinda Obvious really!

c) Mobile phones
--Car drivers! Havn't been many anti-mobile adverts recently!

Does anyone have any ideas how the message could be sent across. Obviously I'm only looking to make one advert focussing on one of the points above! I have a few ideas for each but would like to know if anyone has any really good ideas...

It needs to be completable within a budget/my abilities - i.e I can't stage a 10 car pileup on the M3! I can however, stage an overtake gone wrong on a country road... (See car, bike goes to overtake, crashing noises heard - lots of close ups - see bike on ground and rider in a ditch.

I really liked the drink drive advert with the car overtaking the girl on the bike... https://213.248.114.91/dft/bicycle_high.asx

Cheers,

Craig

This road safety video is good, be worth having a look at it for ideas.

I'd say you've either got to target it at bikers or at car drivers as it will require different points for each of them and trying to cover both will be more vague and general.

Drink driving/riding there are plently of ad's already and I think the message of how daft, dangerous and stupid it is is put across well.

Mobile phones, saw one the other day on TV which was quite good explaining about what can happen both legally and the chances of crashing.

If you do decide to use a bike in the crash, by lying it on its side, be very careful about the petrol etc.

*Remembers the time he was thinking of standing the bike on its handlebars to get at the belly plates*

*Shudders*

The "now you see him" one would be good, but done from the bikers perspective. Obviously it would have to be more than that, otherwise it would look like a knockoff, but its the foundations with which to build upon.

[Camera strapped to bike or preferrably helmet]
Bike riding along, goes to overtake car. Car turns without signalling (make sure to tell/show people that the car didnt indicate)
Bike hits car, camera view goes bonnet/sky/floor/black, to simulate the rider doing a somersault over the bonnet.
cracked screen on camera (can be acieved by affixing a piece of glass to the camera and gently tapping it until it cracks. Be sure to use offcuts of glass or and old broken pane, so you have other pieces around incase you dont get he desired effect first time).
Fade to black etc.

Food for thought.

The scene opens on a long shot of a cemetery; colour washed out, dark and moody. Leafless trees, crows cawing, everything's damp. In the distance there are signs of a recent funeral. The camera begins to close in on the fresh headstone and flowers.

The soundtrack is a recording of someone taking their kid to school in the car, played back as the camera closes in on the grave.

Kid: "Daddy, why are you taking me to school today?"

Driver: "Because Mummy had to go to work early today. And I'm going to be late if we don't get you school soon."

Car starts up, usual driving sounds - gears, revving, indicators etc.

Camera gets closer.

Kid: "I spy with my little eye"

Driver: "Roundabout."

Kid: (giggles) No silly, I haven't said the letter yet. Something beginning with M"

As the camera gets closer, we see wreaths in the shape of a motorbike, the number 21, Son and maybe the biker's name. Yes, I am telegraphing it rather obviously.

Driver: "My car?"

Kid: "No."

Driver: "Umm, maniac drivers?"

Kid: "No."

Driver: "Let me think now.."

CRASH! The sounds of a bike smashing into the car.

Driver: (sounding shocked and stunned) "My God, oh my God..."

Kid: (absolutely no change to the kid's voice) "No Daddy. Motorbike."

The camera shot closes in on a wreath with a card saying "Sorry mate, I didn't see you."

You get the idea.
