not getting spark

hey guys recently picked up a dt 125 x engine and loom etc, was trying to get her running, was weather seized but have her freed up now i think its a 2001 model, anyway was turning it over and first of all i was only getting spark once when i hit the button then no more no matter how long i held it, but if i let go again and press again it will spark once and then nothing again, but now i am not getting any spark at all and nothing has been changed, wa sthe coil just on the way out anyway or is it something else i have missed cheers for help!

Start checking with a multimeter. You're going to be chasing your own tail without one.

battery grand, it seemed weird to me that it was spaking just once and not continually when turning over and now nothing! if i have a multimeter how do i check the coil? and what else do i try? cheers
