r6 chain tension

hi first off all ive not long passed my bike test Very Happy
ive decided to adjust the chain as a mate said it needed adjusting so i purchased a Manuel so i get the right torque settings for rear wheel and rear brake caliaper. i know that the gear boxes can be noisy when putting into gear Laughing
but the issue is it now adjusted seems to jump when i select first gear not out off gear just when select first it jumps forward and makes a clack when doing so didnt do before jump forward any advice on what to do please Rolling Eyes

You should take Manuel back, he obviously doesn't know what he's talking about....

If the bike never did iit before you adjusted the chain, then you'd be best slackening off the chain a little.

The "manuel" you bought should specify the chain slack required.

If the bike's always done it then maybe your clutch needs adjusting as it might not be releasing fully (ie: cable too slack).

As above probably chains been adjusted too tight.

They should be slacker than many people new to biking often think - for example on my zx6, holding centre of the lower chain you should be able to wiggle it up and down by around an inch give or take.

Your mate may of thought it was meant to be dead-tight when it was actually okay Question

It's the same on my Fazer, the chain on that needs to have enough slack in it that if you push it up it should just touch the bottom of the swing arm.

It's different on different bikes though, so see what the manual says - not your mate.
