Hi there,

I'm new to the world of biking and have just purchased a second hand Suzuki Bandit GSF 600 S. It is very god condition with under 20,000 miles on the clock.

The exhaust pipes are new and stainless steal I believe but the bracket underneath has a fair bit of wear and there is rust, but it's surface rust. I'm aware that Bandits have a serious weak point here but I was wondering if there is an exhaust guard or plate or something that can be placed to prevent any more weathering or grit from wearing it down. If there is, what is it called? Or is there any other advice that anyone can give me to help prevent any serious damage.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me

Hey,

To answer your question i dont know of any aftermarket products to solve this, however:-

I had this exact same problem with my GSF. I noticed this about a week after i had been sold the bike by a dealer, when i took it in the dealer said they would sort it all out for me.

What they did was cut out the mild steal and weld in a stainless piece. They made a sleeve so i could still replace the exhaust if i wanted to.

If you have any welding skills you may be able to do this your self.

Hope this helps.

You can't really protect it much as the exhaust gases rot it from the inside out anyway.

Eventually, having a new piece of pipe welded in is the only answer, as Lodge says.
