Hi guys + gals,

I'm in need of help, i currently own a Sym Wolf 125 (i know i know bad bike etc) but lately the electrics are a complete nightmare!

I was riding to work last week when all of a sudden i knocked down 2 gears to enter a corner and the electrics completely shut off and so did the engine, the bike would not do nothing at all, i turned the ignition off, turned it back on and the clock lit up, done its checks then the electrics went off again, it did this repeatedly for 5-10 minutes then started back up and i ridden away.

It also happened yesterday, driving home from work when the electrics and engine shut off again, this time it took 20-25 minutes for the electrics to stay back on :/ev

Also, when i turn my bars left right left right left right, sometimes the electrics flicker or sometimes they go completely off then turn themselves back on.

A friend of mine checked the battery voltage etc while i rev'd away and he said the voltage was completely fine, he said maybe something about the ignition barrell?
Or something to do with the clock (apparently its a benelli clock)

Has anyone got any ideas??

thanks a bunch in advance.

damaged wiring loom or ignition would be my guess

you need to have a look at the wiring or if not happy doing that, take it to a dealers or auto leccys

+1. Sounds like a loose connection when moving bars from side to side. Give the wiring a thorough check before going to a garage. Might be something simple? Good luck!

Ps. Get a decent bike Very Happy

This.

Sounds like there is a connection somewhere that is breaking the circuit when wiggled, this is likely to be when moving the handle bars from what you have said.
Get the tank/front fairings off and have a good look at all the connectors in the immediate area. If this dosnt yield issues then turn on the ignition and try to replicate the problem with the handlebars and watch to see which wires are being effected.
If this to doesn't yield anything then start wiggling them one by one until something causes it.

Extremely unlikely the battery would cause an intermittent issue like this, once its died its deaded...

Happy hunting.

The best investment you can make is a basic £5 digital multimeter plus 15 minutes of time watching "how to use a multimeter" videos.

If everythings going out, it could be an earthing problem. Check where the negative connects to the frame / battery / starter of the bike.
Or could it be a dodgy cut out switch?

Definitely learn to use a multimeter. This book's pretty easy to read and I thought pretty awesome.

I'm with the above that you need a multimeter as a diagnostic tool.

Also based on my (limited) experience of electrics it sounds like maybe a loose wire or one (or two) that have rubbed through and making the occasional contact. The prevents the magic electric pixies from doing their magic pixie stuff.

I'd start with where things might rub like around the steering and around that ignition barrel. Other areas to look at would be around the battery box. I had issues once where I thought the earth wire looked ok but one tug told me it wasn't (effectively corroded and just resting on/in the connector).
