........do we ride with little or no protection?

I have just bought my first pair of 'real' boots and as I'm July on a 125 and not a particularly fast one at that will I be overdressed in the sunshine.

I have thick warm textile jacket and bottoms and then the new boots. I imagine I will sweat my tits off but I can't bare the thought of leaving all my skin on the road should the need to vacate the bike arise.

Looking good is important but not as important as feeling safe and protected

Have to confess I've been really skimping - at least on the short jaunts. Just me normal karrimore troos and trainers, plus a t-shirt. Neutral

I've worn t-shirt, jeans and trainers a couple times, however usually I just wear leather jacket, jeans and trainers, sometimes gloves, sometimes not.

I'm way too good of a rider to ever fall off. Laughing

Full gear.. but I always ride for at least an hour or two.. at speed high temperatures don't bother me.

For going to local shops I drive my car.. much quicker Wink

Each to their own really.
I would rather be ATGATT and keep my skin, but if you do come off the only person that will be affected is yourself.

I guess it's the same as deciding whether to buckle up in a car or not.

Why not just rub a cheese grater up and down yourself instead of risking coming off and hurting yourself?

Most accidents happen close to home as you drop your guard so if anything you should be suited and booted regardless.

Because the former WILL inflict injury and does NOT feel good, whereas the latter merely might - and *does* feel good. Hey I'm just guessing. Work with me here.

For your average masochist, I guess hurting yourself would feel good Laughing

So for maximum safety and comfort don the full gear drive to a friends house on the other side of town and then strip off to shorts and flip flops? Very Happy

Think I will stick to my over the top full gear and sweat my tits off. After all 50 mph on a 125 is the same 50 mph on a 1000cc isn't it!

Always wear my two piece leathers and gear, but I have a pair of board shorts in my backpack if I'm stopping to chill somewhere for a little while, only takes two mins to change.

All gear except that one time I rode with no lid and didn't like it, many kittens died that day.

Orrr,

By wearing less gear you are less hot, therefore less sweaty, therefore less likely to become dehydrated, therefore less likely to loose concentration and crash.

Just apply common sense:

I commute through the city - it is hot I am moving slowly - I wear less gear.

You commute down the motorway - it is hot but you are moving fast - wear full gear.

Not difficult Laughing

I normally fully gear up regardless, however I did a few shortish trips yesterday in boots, kevlar jeans and tshirt, no gloves, was actually very refreshing, not something i'd do often though

Pulled lining from textile jacket other day, so top half wasn't too bad yesterday with just a T-shirt underneath.

However, bottom half is still leather trousers and mx boots so my betty swollocks were betting swuckets after 3 hours in saddle.

Lacquering them in lynx helps a bit.

The problem is, hot weather brings out everyone, so roads are full of hot sauna cages, full of sweaty, arguing, beach bound family's who can't be trusted to focus on me coming out of side roads.
So I always wear all the gear.

You still felt the need to post 4 times though Razz

I just wear less under the jacket, take the sheepskin liner out the boots, not wear the super thick under layer trousers etc.

What if you have a massive head and a very thin neck but no gear or bike, would you still nod?

The possibilities are endless!

From being out and about, it seems to be roughly a 50/50 split in the Southend area.

Half are out in jeans or shorts and a t shirt, the other half are "all the gear all the time", and well, if I'm still sweating in a t-shirt I don't know how they are coping.
