My 84 VT500E has done another timing chain tensioner on the front cylinder (22k) which was a genuine honda replacement for the original item, does anyone know of any superior aftermarket tensioners or a sensible mod for the existing tensioner on this bike? The tensioner has an intermittent problem ( Hondaitis) in that it is fine some days but others the chain rattles.

Naah I kid, I'd go with the above. If you clean it, it's just gonna get dirty again.

essentially you remove the bolt plus the spring and replace them with a long bolt and a locknut.

nope, apart from you can pay £150 a pair for them (firestorm) and this is essentially a bolt and lock-nut affair
