Hello. Hope you guys are doing well. I have a Japanese 1998 Honda Nighthawk 250 (disk brake & RPM meter).
I am willing to rebuild the bike and I need suggestion/help. Help me understanding the following:
1. I need every oem genuine parts except chassis. (Fuel tank, wheels, crank,cylinder, head, seat, swingarm, every nuts and bolts, clips, pins, rubber etc etc) I am in Bangladesh so how can I order the parts? Do I need the part number?
2. If I order by part number it seems to me that I have to mention every nut and bolts number... Is there any shortcut? (As I need the whole bike as spare)
3. What is microfiche? How can I take advantage of it?
4. Chassis painting idea? Original Honda chassis black color code? What type of color is it? Can I do it by myself?
Please help. Thanks in advance. |

If you look around the bike probably under the seat you will find an information sticker that will include the paint colour code, best thing to do with the chassis is have it shot blasted and powder coated for a long and durable life, DIY is hardly worth the hassle nowadays as proper powder coating and blasting are just as cheap and a lot more durable than a DIY job. A microfiche Is a cellulite information screen that must be veiwed via a microfiche machine as the information is minature to the naked eye, you do not need one and they are rarely used nowadays as the internet can supply all the info you need.

Wow really?
So in theory my 125 twin block could be bored out to 180cc/200cc/250cc? Or did they use different cylinders which just looked the same?

It is in deed a Benley engine.
It is not based on teh CB125T motor... that is a derivative of the Benley engine, and NO you cannot hog one out to the capacities of the other Benley family motors.
The 125T engines have short stroke, 41mm, 180 timed cranks.
The CD125 Benley & CM125 Rebel, share the 125T's 41mm stroke and 43mm bore, but have a 360 degree crank. Cams are there-fore non interchangeable, as the timing is out. CD & CM cams are also softer, and the motors were fed by manifolded single carb, where the 125T is fed by twins.
The larger capacity Benley motors gained thier extra cubes from combination of boring and stroking. OTMH;
125 = 41x43
175 = no idea
185 = no idea
200 = ? x 53
223 = 53 x53
The bigger bore motors gained cubes from bigger barels.
These wont fit directly on 125 motors. The casting is the same, but the steel liner inside is thicker. In fact the 'bore' of the biog-bore liners is bigger than the outside diameter of the 125 Liner. So boring out a 125 varel you'd just end up cutting the liner away and be left with the barel with a bigger hole in it!
Barels from teh Big-bore motors wont fit the 125 engine for same reason; the liners are too thick to sit in crank-case rebates; the cases have to be machines to suit.
Using the big-bore barels requires the big-bore pistons. These are low compression & any gain from the extra cubes is likely to be lost from lack of squashing. Which is a minor quibble, as the pistons wont fit the 125 con-rods... the gudgeon pins are too big.
Mixing and matching engine bits from the benley family is frustrating; looks good in principle, they are all very closely related... BUT... not closely enough.
And ultiomately, the 233cc motors only ever made 20bhp or so anyway, and the full-power 125, was only three ponies less than the best of them.
Hint is, that if you want a CB125 Super-Benley... you base on the 125 'full-power' engine.
That means you need the full-power camshaft... I have a part number if you are really masocistic enough to want to go hunt one out.. they are a deleted item from the Honda Listings... some suppliers still list them... but at exhorbitant prices... IF Honda ever decide to re-manufacture a batch.... so you are down to searching out New-Old-Stock or second hand, and HOPING that it IS actually the full power cam, not one from the Chinese Jailing or a common-a-garden 'Reduced-Effect' Super-Dream item... they are almost indestinguishable to the naked eye... but the Full-Power one has an extra 10% more lift and a little extra dwell....
Full-Power 125 Cam is what will give you the power from a Benley engine... provided what's beneath it has enough compression and is fed by enough carburation. AND has 180 timed crank.
So you would also need 26mm carbs from the full-power bike.... another little niggle.... Super-Dream 26's are even rarer than the Cam. Earlier T-Shock carbs dont line up... and alternative Keihin 26's inconvenient either in the mounting flange or the choke of both, and certainly the jetting.
But restricted to 180 degree crank, you ONLY have the option of the 125's 41mm item... slap 53mm pistons on top of that... getting round case milling and gudgeon pin problems and finding way to not loose compression..... you only get 175cc from it.... you justcant go big-enough on stock slugs to get the thing out even close to 250 on the 125 crank.
It is a road to MADNESS I tell you.... and trust me on this.... I KNOW... I spent two years tracking down a NOS 'full-power' cam; and have umpety of these little buggers in bits, pondering, and have still yet to find a way to make all the good bits go together... and I used to be a rocket-scientist! ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!
