I have just had the best 5 minutes of my life so far!

One of the main managers at work has a gixer 1000. He handed me the key this am and said go for a spin on the bike. Obviously I declined saying I wasn't legal etc etc (although I have had big bikes before and I know it's naughty etc etc don't flame me please).

He convinced me it would be a fair swap as he wanted a go n my 125 as he has never rode the varadero 125, yeah right.

After the first set of lights he told me to thrash it on the next straight which I did. First ride on that bike, first time on a 1000cc that's race 'messed about with' and a long time since I've had a large bike beneath me.

Jesus it was fast. I didn't rev it out I daren't, I was cautious but hit 100 on a quiet bit of road. I couldn't ride that particular bike a long way as it was damn uncomfy but if you want speed then it did it. I was grinning like a Cheshire Cat.

The brembo really-sroppy-brakes he has fitte dot it nearly threw me off the front as I tried to turn in the gate for work, I missed and overshot.

I rode pretty well for a large gap in riding big bikes and I wasn't scared of it and largely in control. I was quite impressed with myself.

Trouble is now as I was riding home on my 125 I thought the brake was stuck on or the tyre was flat or something was wrong with it. Basically my manager has fxxked my bike up, he hasn't broke it or damaged it n anyway, he's just made it slower by giving me a faster bike to ride!

I'm gutted cos I thought my 125 was ample for my needs!

Bollocks.

Even if that is not a Jackanory, you're a twat.

Edit: I mean you no massive disrespect but having an uninsured pilot of an unfamiliar machine barrelling out of control at over a ton is a really stupid situation to be in or near.

Well I'm glad you had fun but read your post again and consider whether it's a good idea to post that on a public forum

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

It's only true until a pig reads it, then it becomes jackanory-for-the-lulz.

Soon as the pig leaves the thread it's true again.

Actually yea it was all complete lies and never happened! (mainly due to the unlegalness of it all)

My 125 varadero just went round the block quite a bit faster than normal, think it was that shell v petrol I put in!

On a serious note tho it was (if it had happened) a bit irresponsible. The unfamiliar bike thing was (if it had happened) a bit reckless. On the other hand no one was (if it had happened) injured or even put in harms way.

I have some experience and obviously can stay upright on a bike as I have managed to survive.

I presume your manager is looking to scrap the bike, and his staff also perhaps

I don't think he wants rid of me, I think he wants me on a bigger bike tbh.

I'm reluctant to go get a big bike as I can't see the point in commuting on a 1000cc bike. That said I would like a big bike to play/tour on but also need a commuter. Two bikes? I doubt the mrs would allow that as I currently have two horses which take up a lot of time and money.

I probably will take the test eventually, when I have a little more up to date experience and some on private land on a larger bike.

I think I would pass, I would get the mrs' dad to follow me round a bit on the 125 in mock test conditions to practice/brush up as he is well travelled on two wheels and quite anal with rules. I do often ride like I was being tested and practice obs etc, helps get things in the mind and you have plenty of time to think on a slow bike!

I'm thinking take my cbt again in December as its due and maybe direct access next spring???

Is it difficult?

If youve had a fair bit of practice [and riden as you say properly doing as many obs as youve been told how to etc] it will make it a lot easier - but not EASY. A lot of it heavily depends on routes, time of day and sorts of things that throw up little unexpected things that constitute a fail like some traffic forcing you to move unexpectedly and forgetting a check or a signal in the stress of the moment mid test.

I've commuted on 600 sportbikes before without much problem, never owned a 1000 yet so not sure how that would be but i wouldn't of that it'd be all that terrible to be honest once you get used to it, i see plenty of r1's commuting around me in summer at least.

I'd get your theory booked and done soon to be honest, one less thing to worry about and in case you fail it/bookings take a while to get at least thats done and out the way then and valid for 2 years.

It should be locked down, both me and mrs have security set, must be a 'friend' on Facebook!

Just a bit scary being photo'd by someone you don't realise you know!

Nevermind I'm sure they will make themselves known, their screen name doesn't narrow it down as most people I know are divvies or dumb arses

That's my head, its the ugly growth on the right I need looking at!

Hopefully I have locked security down, not that I am bothered if folk see my mug. It's just shocking when you think it is locked.

I don't have those pix on my facebook so it's come from the mrs' I think.

Hope my address isn't on there too. Thieves could find out way too much info really couldn't they.

Matt, I am expecting it to be damn hard, I find the cbt nerve wracking even though its not a test. I passed my car test first time with a couple of minors. I just don't like to fail those kind of things as its costly and time consuming, hence the practicing and constant thinking of how you would perform on a test.

I also do the theory test stuff on the computer from time to time as I've never done one before. I pass every time but still practice is valuable!

Why i never got into facebook personally, one big privacy rape Thumbs Down

You should bare in mind your CBT [i presume at least] was done with no biking experience, you now have lots of practice - by the test will have much more AND [id recommend at least a couple to fine tune your riding] lessons behind you, its not at all so daunting by then, just stay calm and ride sensibly which if you do normally will make it a lot easier.

The module 1 i found most stressful actually due to its obscure nature, and the speedtrap test caught me out first time as i thought it would be easy to get upto speed on the 125 i did it on and it turned out it wasnt on both times.

My retest of module 1 i had to absolutely ring the life out of it to get upto speed Laughing And again, repeating practice with a few cones in a carpark for a couple of hours and you won't be that illprepared then for the U-turn, weaving etc.

For the theory get the DSA's motorcycle theory dvd, can resell it back on amazon or ebay once you're done, one solid night doing the dvd should make you fairly sure to pass unless you cock up the hazard perception videos particularly.

Seeing as your username is your actual name, it's not too hard to find you on Facebook. You might want to change a few of your privacy settings on Facebook to lock it down further.

I took my first cbt back in the nineties so I have had a fair bit of experience on and off over the years.

I don't think control of the bike will be much of an issue as again I do practice some slow speed stuff if I'm unlucky to be caught in traffic etc, clutch control, balance etc etc.

Probably if you followed me and I didn't have the l plates on you would assume I was a new rider or even a more experienced rider as such. What I mean is I'm not shit and I'm not like some of these idiots who go around on mopeds screaming the tits off em and licking the rear windows of cars.

I have been around bikes since I was a kid and rode since about 9 years, back when you could take bike around the woods! I learned to drive at 13, off the road of course and had a moped at 16 then a car at 17.

I would hope to pass first time but as you say there is always something to catch you out and I would be a fool not to draw on more experienced folk who have been and done it!

I think I will spend the rest of this summer researching and learning. Then get test sorted next year. I should be well prepared by then and at 38 I think it's about time I did it!

Not even close. I can see all the stuff on your timeline, including the pics of your sprog, dog and horse. Your OH has got slightly better security.
