Hi, how much should this cost from a paint shop? Looking for a farily light dent repair on a gsxr tank, met/pearl white base coat, decal fitting (I'm supplying) and clear coat etc... Was quoted £750 today, thought to myself, hmmmmmm!! Rolling Eyes

Can anyone recommend someone? Thumbs Up

Deary fucking me 750....

Where are you located mate.

For a start how bads the dent - could just fill it and sand it down to the tank level to be honest.

For a basic paint job if you're talking an end look of something like a generic bike fairing i wouldnt expect to be paying much more than 150 for a tank.

Decals just buy yourself and apply afterwards for a couple of quid.

Even worth a crack at it yourself if you aren't too daunted by the idea probably.

Yeah 150 is what I number I had. I'm in Dartford but travel into central ldn daily if that helps anything....

I'd be happy ish to have a go, it's just farting around with kit I dont have meaning it's gonna cost regardless, i.e. compressor spray gun etc... spose I could hire or borrow one and give it a go, think I'd like a top finish though and time is a factor....

Decals I'm after look to be £60 so far.... Thumbs Down

Yeah if you're wanting a full on spray professional look and haven't got any experience after factoring in tool rental / fucking it up a couple of times as to be fair most probably will might be just as easy to get it done.

I'm over in bristol unfortunantely so no where nearby i can recommend but definately don't exceed 200 quid absolute tops, 750 is utterly ridiculous.

What decals is it you want exactly, do you have an image link - if they're standard 'suzuki' tank logos or something you can get them dead cheap.

yep, I'm thinking the same, not like I'm gonna start making a habbit out of it, but seemingly, like many things, there's money to be made from this side of biking....

decals I'm gonna be after are here for the tank alone, other sites want to sell me the full sticker kit for 200 big one's - another fookin rip off!!

https://www.redracingparts.com/english/motorbikesmotorcycles/partsandaccessories/stickersdecalsgraphics/suzuki/SBS700.php

maybe I'll prep it as best I can, then get matey at the local car place to go over it with the white, then I'll fit the decals and take it for the laquer?

To be honest i wouldn't bother self prepping, as if you get a reasonable place the 'cost' of the prep factored in wont be much, and if you botch the prep at all, you're throwing away the majority of the money thatll go towards the paint job so better to leave it all to them probably.

Ah yeah the decals might be a bit of an issue, i was going to say if its the bog standard 'Suzuki' tank decals or something similar you can get knock offs for peanuts, but those might be a bit harder to get hold of. 60 quids still pretty steep though, might be worth getting a copy of each picture and going down a local vinyl printing shop and asking how much they can do you a few copies for - but again if your times precious it might not be that worth it for what i'd guess might be 30 quid savings.

yeah see ya point, plus more time etc. Thought about the vinyl shop idea, but I presume i'll need to get a full res copy of that graphic....easier said than done....no great rush as the fairings wont arrive for a few weeks but nice to have a plan ready....

The paint shop quote was https://www.hardrocks-bp.co.uk/ was a random southern one from a google search - maybe he just wasn't interested in the business, or I sounded like a rich sunday-coffee-drinking-poser after a wsk rep...
I recon even Dream machine would be cheaper than this, not that I'll be calling them on my budget.... fingers burnt and all that!! Smile

Bloody hell they're a fair way off you arent they Laughing i'm between bournemouth and bristol for work/mates regularly, never heard of them to be honest and i've got a fair few bikers pals down that way so don't think you've lost out on too much especially with the 'quote' Shocked

I'd just do a local search or if you know any local bikers have an ask about, often the local 'industrial yard' paint shops are actually best, especially for price, but also for service as they don't have a huge name and reputation for business so they rely on their service.

And all that aside - if you can't do a straight up paint job on a tank you shouldn't be painting full stop so essentially anywhere with half a clue can do it, its just a case of getting somewhere with a decent price.
