Early YZF 750 info.

Hi all .

Going to look at an early 1993 YZF 750 with a friend later today.
Its going to be his first "big bike" as a step up from the cbr 400 he has for the past two years .

I know the major points to look at but are there any specific weaknesses to this model i should be aware of ?

The only thing that immediately springs to mind was their slightly weak clutches and front discs that like to warp.

Solid bikes tho, huge fun.

Sounds like a winner then.
Just wanted to know what to look for as im the one doing the test ride as hes really nervous about the extra power.

Is there a way to test the clutch or is it just a case of booting it in first to feel for slip ?

Its one of the pink and white ones but its only £1200 seems in good condition haha you gotta love how weird the late 80`s and early 90`s paintjobs were.

One of Yamaha's gems. It lived in the shadow of the all conquering Fireblade (a better buy, by the way). Actually a bit 'revvy' as it uses a down-sleeved 1000 motor. This is a good thing as it doesn't seem to suffer the second gear failures of the 600's. Very good handling all round. Build quality is quite good, especially for that period of Yamaha.
Quite rare and becoming sought after so if in good condition is a steal at the price.

Might be a bit late now but my mate is well into these, he has 2 750's one on track and another in bits also has a 750 frame with a Thunderace engine on the road, can confirm they go like the clappers!

He says to watch out for blue smoke, they have a habit of burning it (Yamaha took a while to get the gist of how a 4 stroke doesn't need to burn oil Razz

) so check the oil level before buying, one of his needs some top end work after running too low.

Warped discs are another thing to check for, also he personally doesn't rate the 6 pots as highly as the later blue dots, says they're fine when they work but a bitch to service, recommends swapping to later blue dots.

Will pass on the recommendations haha

Needs a few little things sorting (screen and a service)

But it runs and rides very well .
no clutch slip engine sounds good smoked a little for a few seconds but ran fine after that with no blue tinge to it.
