Hi

Have budgeted between 1-2k for a bike. more expensive the bike the longer itll take to save....

if i took out credit for a bike lets say cost £1500, what sorta deposit would i be expected to pay and do places do a 12 month finance option?!

im not bankrupt but my credit history isnt a shining example either so i dont want to fill out forms online cos i know they log em.

anyone had finance for cheap bike before?

thanks

Deposits are usually minimum 10%, but you'll be wanting to put down more than that to get lower monthly costs and reduced APR rate.

Aim for around 30 - 40% deposit.

if you do it that way you have a few more options, a low/no interest credit card and the second being a traditional loan, i am sure they will appreciate the colour of your money then

You'll be likely enough to get finance through a dealer, its called a Hire Purchase agreement and its secured on the bike - if you miss the payments, they take the bike back - hence you're much less likely to miss payments, and even if you do, they'll get their money back.

Tesco Bank have a credit card offer at the moment, 0% on purchases for 18 months, there are similar offers from other places, too.

Personally I'd rather go that route as you can be more flexible with repayments, it is unsecured, and you get extra consumer protection.

as with anything finance related, the more money you can throw down at the start the better as the amount borrowed is less,

This can benefit you in either shorter timescale, lower interest or lower re-payments.

Think our sofa costs us £10 per month over the space of a couple of years as we couldn't quite afford it outright.

at the moment (bearing in mind im still waiting a few weeks so these mightve gone by then) i see these which are probably better suited to a noob

I'd save up the cash and go private...not saying the dealer is overcharging as I never look at dealer prices but those bikes all look really expensive to me compared to what you could get on Ebay.

Not sure how much that warranty will really be worth though.

The way I see it, I'd rather meet the owner and get a feel for what they're like than buy a bike from a bloke whose job requires him to sell bikes for more than they're worth (i.e. more than he managed to buy it for).

Have you considered going brand new?

Kawasaki dealerships at moment are offering 0% APR over 3 years with a £60 (yes, sixty) deposit.
Was almost enough to tempt me into a new 636....

Warrantys are rarely worth the paper they're written on, especially on used bike - 90 percent of things they will put down to wear and tear on your behalf or something along those lines to avoid doing any work. And realistiically if theyre selling it theyll of given it a once over to make sure it lasts a good 3-6 months, itll be after that shit goes wrong on the bike most likely if its on the way-out in some areas.

I would personally go private i'd never buy from a dealer unless new of course.

There's a lovely CB500 going cheap in the for sale section if you can scrape £800 together Wink

The other thing about warranties is that given how much more you're paying for the priviledge of buying from a dealer you'd have to have a lot of problems to be better off, even if they honoured it.

For example, quick look on Ebay shows this...

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1999-YAMAHA-XJ-600-XJ600S-DIVERSION-GREEN-LONG-MOT-F-S-H-1-START-NO-RESERVE-/290941558780?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item43bd77dffc&nma=true&si=qyFl7xaIrkVkWex5q%252Fc7FJqbadE%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

...sold for £700 less than the dealer one you posted. It has one third the mileage, longer MOT and the proper half fairing and (apparently) doesn't need any of the consumables renewing.

Why people go to dealers is beyond me.

Have you seen this bike and given it a look over? Is it safe? No hpi crap? Or did the buyer end it because it went so low

Obviously not, but presumably the buyer did Wink I wouldn't buy a bike off Ebay without looking at it. The auction did end so that's the price it got to.

As for HPI...I think if you do a check yourself it's about £695 less than the dealer appears to charge for the service Laughing

Dealers are pointless! You pay over inflated prices and the warranty is worthless. Why bother...... Totally agree with tommy
