Just wanting to check if this is normal or not.

On a hot day, such as today, my fuel tank whistles slightly while the bike is parked, it sometimes does it after a long run.

It's only noticeable if I'm in a quiet area such my back garden where the bike lives.

I know it's the tank venting as it warms and air pressure changes, just wanting to check if it was normal or if it means a vent is blocked somewhere?

Sounds normal to me.
Be concerned if the whistling changes to a tune you recognise, like "Happy Birthday" or something like that.

If you attach a clean pipe to the breather on the back of the tank and blow with the cap open does the air come through?

I had a squeal type noise from my tank and it turned out I'd cocked up putting the breather back in and caught it under the seat so a blocked breather could cause this.

Does it sounds like pressure is being released when you open the cap after it's been 'whistling' ?

My old GpShed used to do it after a run. It's nothing to worry about.

Shouldn't be that much volume moving through the breather so if it's whistling check it's not partially blocked.

Very normal for ZX7R's too. In fact if you open the tank while it's doing it you'll get a 'ppffffffssshhhh' noise.

My Ninja 250R used to whistle like a kettle @ the petrol station, at traffic lights, in fact anywhere it was hot and sunny and I was stopped it whistled. Annoyed the tits off me!!

Parting words from the guy we bought it off was... it's got that classic Kawasaki whistle...

I just like to think of my ex-Ninja250R whistling away under the woman I sold it to Smile

Not sure, when is the tick heard? might be something else I'd been wondering about.

My induction noise at 6000 rpm sounds like a jet engine spooling up Very Happy

I have a vibration noise (presumed to be fairing / dash surround) at 5200 rpm

Ok, so it seems a lot of Kawasakis whistle.
The ninja250 was black, don't know if colour makes a difference. I also have an er6 in silver that has never whistled.

I did notice one time when i took my ZX6's tank off - stupidly putting it upside down on the floor Rolling Eyes fuel trickled very slowly out of the cap - would it be expected to do that or is it perhaps a very slightly poor seal or something around the tank cap area, maybe common and causing the whistling Thinking Question
