My xbox keeps getting the two red lights, when you switch it back on it says it's overheating. The console doesn't even seem hot!
I tried opening it and cleaning the crap out and it worked for a bit (on a cooler day) but now it's doing it again. I even tried placing it up off the carpet and the power brick out in the open but I still get the same thing
Any ideas? ____________________ Bikes : 2006 CBR125R - 2004 Monster 620ie - 2004 ZX-6R B1H - 2005 Monster S2R 800 - 2011 Street Triple - 2009 Streetfighter 1098 - 2014 ZX-6R 636

Two red lights is easy to solve.
The thermal paste that sits between the CPU and the heatsink is of a poor quality when it comes out of the MS factory. What you need to do is replace the thermal paste with a good quality one and it will resolve the issue.
Google how to disassemble an xbox an remove the X-clamps for both the CPU and GPU, use solvents like acetone/MEPK or white spirits to clean up the shite that remains there already, including on the heatsink too, dry up, then apply new thermal paste, say pea size, and use a piece of card to spread to a thin film on the CPU/GPU chip, then replace the heatsinks, x-clamps, put xbox back together, and hey presto, your 2 red lights should be gone for good.
As for what thermal paste to use, dont bother with the cheap crap from ebay, you might as well use water instead. Look for a small sachet of something like Artic silver or MX-4.

Hmm sounds complicated but I'll give it a go. As for how old it is, it's the original core system from when they first came out I've had the RROD fixed once by MS, I fixed the disc tray error myself and now this. So it's had a damn good run! ____________________ Bikes : 2006 CBR125R - 2004 Monster 620ie - 2004 ZX-6R B1H - 2005 Monster S2R 800 - 2011 Street Triple - 2009 Streetfighter 1098 - 2014 ZX-6R 636
