Fully agree. Insurance companies know EVERY trick in the book to make themselves purely profitable while minimising their workload and totally disregarding the 'human' issue of their customers.

Most finance companies are the same, in my opinion. Each branch of the trade has it's own wankerish way of doing things. As long as money's involved, they're cunts. That's how it works these days. Specially in the businesses where they don't actually physically do anything other than juggling numbers on computers and 'bend' laws to make it work in their favour (banking, insurance, accounting, etc). Really hate it. Really, really hate it!

No chance... The insurance companies don't make money on the policies (mainly due to their own poor practices against each other). Problem is that any other company entering the industry needs to charge more or enter into the same dodgy practices.

I know I simply go with the cheapest quote every time - I don't want insurance, I have to have it so I do...

So profit margins are tight in motor insurance then? Too competitive?

Nope...

It's a very complicated business but essentially they sell a cheap product (the policy) and then upsell hard. They also use you as an asset - it's this that ends up hurting customers.

Being an asset, you (and your claim) is subject to kickbacks from all over. Lawyers being the easy one, but also suppliers (eg. an insurer insists on a certain type of paint which the garage has to buy at a massive markup, the insurer gets a kickback for finding such a good customer in the garage).

It's a horrible complex web, which leaves it impossible for a new firm to enter the market and not indulge in those practices. Yet still leaves the basic fact that policies are sold below cost (even if the inflated cost is due to those dodgy practices).

Anything with the word "Saga" attached should be steered well clear of.

Insurance companies are becoming like banks, all they want to do is Jew money out of you.

So just how old does one have to be to qualify for Saga things?
Not that I do, I'm sure... Whistle

Does the insurance take into account that you probably have failing eyesight and stop for toilet breaks more often? Bit strange that it was cheaper than everything else for years and now when you actually are OLDER, its costing more.

They're not doing a very good job of helping out the elderly, are they.

Half century.

When I was about 40, they were 50% cheaper than a lot of other companies so I couldn't wait to be old enough to use 'em Smile ......that's all changed now sadly.

They're not allowed to discriminate by age now... It's only a matter of time before policy variation by age disappears, just as it has done based on sex. Some canny law student who wants to make a name for themselves will start a case in Europe soon...
