Rant - Saga Insurance

Bleedin' insurance companies, I now dread when renewal time comes around each year as it can be such a nightmare.
I went with saga for the motor this year as they had the cheapest quote, (best reason?). I insured the car online, paid in full and then went away to a family wedding for a few days, off to Brighton with my son, then up to my dads for a week or so.
in that time, Saga had sent me a letter asking me to send in a copy of my licence. As I never received this, they cancelled my policy. As a result, I had been driving around the country without insurance They did ring my moby, just the once, but, for whatever reason, I never got this call. No more calls, no texts and no emails.
When I rang them, I was told that if I emailed the documents, the policy would be reinstated within 4 days and the £50 cancellation fine given back. Not so. 6 weeks later I'm still not covered and received no refund, even though I have done all they asked to get it reinstated.
I've spent hours on the phone trying to get it sorted and seem to be dealing with three different companies. Apparently, Saga aren't an "outbound" company, (no, I didn't know what that meant either), this means they don't ring out I really hate insurance companies - they're all a bunch of slimey buggers IMO. I'm now waiting for a letter from the police saying my car has been spotted with no insurance.

Mind you......talk about every cloud having a silver lining, I had to go to Brighton on Wednesday. I was supposed to be taking a pushbike down there but, as the car wasn't insured, I left the pushbike and went on the VFR. Good job I did as the M25 on the way back yesterday had the worst tailback I think I've ever seen. Part of it just up from the Dartford tunnel was closed completely and people were having to get out of their cars due to the heat and sit about for hours while I just slowly made my way inbetween them I stopped and asked one lorry driver if he had any messages for any of his relatives Unbelievably, I actually saw two bikes sitting in the queue what's that about FFS? One was a big cruiser so might have been harder to get through, you think he's give it a go though, why the hell sit there with all the cars and trucks? It doesn't make sense I tells ya.

Fully agree. Insurance companies know EVERY trick in the book to make themselves purely profitable while minimising their workload and totally disregarding the 'human' issue of their customers.

Most finance companies are the same, in my opinion. Each branch of the trade has it's own wankerish way of doing things. As long as money's involved, they're cunts. That's how it works these days. Specially in the businesses where they don't actually physically do anything other than juggling numbers on computers and 'bend' laws to make it work in their favour (banking, insurance, accounting, etc). Really hate it. Really, really hate it!

The "non outbound company" bit gets me. maybe I should decide to go non outbound too

I'd hate to think of the tricks they pull if/when you try to make a claim

There's a massive opportunity in the UK for honest companies with good ethics I reckon. They'd clean up.

i had to wait years to be old enough to use Saga. They used to be really cheap - not any more though.

So just how old does one have to be to qualify for Saga things?
Not that I do, I'm sure...

Does the insurance take into account that you probably have failing eyesight and stop for toilet breaks more often? Bit strange that it was cheaper than everything else for years and now when you actually are OLDER, its costing more.

They're not doing a very good job of helping out the elderly, are they.
