They're the biking equivalent of the Series Landrovers, a timeless classic that no matter how old, is still perfectly up to the job it was built to do.

I once met a C90 rider who was eighty nine years old, he'd probably have been on a zimmer frame without his trusty steed to "keep his legs young" as he said.

Because they are a proper bike as opposed to some plastic twist-n-go inline wheelchair.

And sometimes people do great things with them :

IM on my second one after first was nicked. Looks standard ish bar suicide shifter. Standard engine and running gear except for straight through pipe and 16t front sprocket. They go surprisingly well. I've got an original rickman screen and top box. Love wi ding chavs up on their mopeds with it. One of the only small capacity bikes i can think of where you can ride to shops or ride round the world knowing parts will be available! Not bad greenlaning either!

A derestricted 2 stroke ped will easily leave a c90

And in the case of the smaller-valved ones, that's to get people around third word towns, mostly, I believe Smile.
Also overpriced for what it is, like the landrovers!

And sorry; far from good greenlaning. (And yes, I've used both the stock and modified one off-road, including taking it around the enduro world track.)

As ever 'character' describes failings - so yes, loads of 'character' Smile.

Not a fan.

Each to their own G. My old one never got stuck wherever i took it. Only one had the 'large valve head' and that was the 72cc made only for a few years. Very rare to find them heads now. They are a popular tuning mod for the 12v 90.

As for a de restricted two smoker. Do you mean 50cc im guessing? If so the de restricted scooters are doing it all wrong. A 50cc piaggio with a 70kit cant catch mine.

Sorry, I meant small-valve head )now edited) - the newer more 'economical' ones.
Nick Sanders never got stuck off roading on his R1. That doesn't make an R1 with road tyres a good green lane bike. I did attempt some of the more difficult obstacles at Enduro Land, but it certainly was far from 'good' at them compared to a proper trail bike.

And yes, a moped is 50cc. A decent derestricted 50cc 2 stroke should fairly easily beat a c90 I'd say.
It's just that it should make a little more power, but that the CVT should make better use of it.
So yes, if a decent 2 stroke with a 70cc kit can't catch you on a stock c90, there's certainly something wrong.

Honda built an empire on the back of the C50 /90. When it was first introduced in the very late 1950's it was a sublime mix of mechanical and ergonomical brilliance. 1st world people rode to work on them, third world countrymen transported crops and family to market on them. The alternatives were a push-bike or a Mobylette. They are still being made and developed, only the VW Beetle can claim such a hieritage. Simple, yes, but in no way crude. This, gentlemen, and (and ladies), is what we will eventually be reduced back to, unless Hydrogen on demand can be developed cheaply.

From 2 mins, this is why they're pretty good.

Personally I wouldn't own though.

G's dead inside and hates everything apart from 2 stroke KTM's and big hairy dogs, ignore him. Laughing

C90's are awesome. They're slow, they're bouncy, they have crap brakes, rot, bend when you go round corners and are generally a good laugh for a short hop, especially considering how serious this world is becoming.

I've done big road trips, green lanes, racing, knee down, wheelies, quite a bit of tuning, a bit too much blowing up and I still like them. Not for an every day bike by any means, mine hasn't been on the road in two years, but when there's a group of four or more of you slip streaming each other everywhere it's hilarious.

Purely a fuckabout for me, find it hard to understand purists.

Good way to up the compression ratio to 12:1 and blow head gaskets.

Best engine is 107 Lifan with a VM22. The real bonus is the extra gear, so you can drop a cog up hills.

The high compression pistons melt though, so don't do that.

If someone offered me a c90 or a 2 smoke and said ride to Scotland i'd certainly choose the c90. It's not great at everything but a smoker won't do 100 mpg or ride for thousands of miles without the need of a rebuild.

Mine will do just over 55 flat out. I know the engine will do that constantly without seizing or dying. I just check oil when i fill up with fuel. Id rather have it over any small smoker. And fo lr the record G i have yet to find a ped that can keep up!

C90 was my first ever bike - got given to me by a friend of a friend, fond memories and certainly gave me the bike bug.
I should've kept hold of it.
