Beta free to play.

Still in the early stage but has got a lot better since I started playing. Charge krauts/frenchies with naught but bolt action and a bayonet!

Can play in either browser or download it to play.

A snarl of anger broke from Hetzer's lips as his guns jammed at the crucial moment, and he hammered furiously at the cocking handles in a wild attempt to clear them, but in vain. In spite of his care, it looked as if bulged rounds of ammunition had found their way into the ammunition belts.

Tried Verdun. It really does look like a dog's breakfast, and runs like one (ie: a dead horse). Horrific caching pauses, long periods of time where you click something in the interface and have no idea if the game's frozen or not, it needs a lot of work.

Nobody was playing the proper team game, just free for all. Charge around a very ugly map hoping you don't get a caching pause at the crucial moment you have to shoot another player with your rifle, as they'll undoubtedly pull out their pistol and fill you with holes. Try to scramble up a hill and die almost instantly as you touch the barbed wire.

Maybe it gets better with two teams as opposed to mindless deathmatch, but I don't know if that's possible with only 16 players. You need a massed battle for it to be WW1, not a handful of guys and a looped sound effect of a machine gun playing in the background.

Still, it already seems better than Red Orchestra 2 was Laughing

So, I gave it a try and it's not bad actually. I think it is Call of duty, works the same, feels the same, will see if it gets any better Thumbs Up

Anyone know of any other WW1 games I could play?

Toy Soldiers is an action-tower defense game that captures the feel (and futility) of trench warfare quite well. Set up an array of mustard gas emitters and machine gun nests and watch hundreds of soldiers get masscared as they charge into the hail of death. The toy angle isn't that intrusive, and the production values are superb. You can control any of the weapons, or jump into a plane and go strafing!

The Victoria games are big strategy games set during the same period.

Most of the best WW1 games have been flight simulators, though there seem to be a lot of FPS games (mostly mods or indie stuff) coming out. If you have Mount and Blade: Warband there's Iron Europe.

When I was younger I loved submarine sims and it looks like someone has finally made a WW1-based one, Shells of Fury. No idea if it's any good.
