Hi guys, just a quicky while I'm at work Sad

What do you suppose the problem could be when in traffic, say at a roundabout, your bike refuses to go in gears lower than third so the person riding it has to literally walk the bike around until the road is flat enough or on a slope for it to pull off in third gear (those nice taxi's decide to help you round by pushing you along! Shocked ).
Fortunately this has not happened to me (since I've not had chance to go on it yet), but my dad who was big and strong enough to walk it around.
Basically he said it is very difficult to drop down the gears, it will go up them fine, but not down into the lower ones. Confused
So what do you think, simple tweaking of a nut type job or mechanic needed?!

Thanks in advance! Very Happy

Its most likely just due to the age of the gearbox and how many miles its done. Changing the oil might help, as might changing the clutch ( might not be fully disengaging).

Otherwise i recommend not block shifting. tell him to try kicking it down gears whist its still moving, rather than stopping in 3rd then trying to change down to 1st.

If ever it won't go in to a gear, try turning it off (with the key) letting the clutch out, pulling it back in, changing down to neutral then starting it again. My old bike used to get stick in second and wouldnt change down unless it was moving, or you let the clutch out.

The bikes old, and old bikes have funny habbits. Lets hope its just his riding style that disagrees with the bike and not an actual problem with the bike!Confused
Best of luck getting it sorted! Thumbs Up

Hi

Quite possibly the clutch adjustment, but then I think we were going to put a new cable on it anyway (it was quite stiff).

Often bikes do not want to change down, or up, the box when not moving. Normally just slip the clutch to move the bike a few cm and try again. Generally try an be down in first before you come to a halt.

All the best

Keith

I had a similar problem a while ago, when I was thinking of selling the zx6.

After much inner-helmet crying, I got home and found it did it fine by hand on a padock stand.

Turned out to just be dirt in the linkages.

If it uses a linkage rod between the gear lever and the engine, get the little rubber cups off and spray a load of WD40 in there.
Remember to add some oil or grease later.

some bikes just dont like 'block changing', try letting the cluch out in between each gear change while your moving and see if this works.
