Righteo BCF

It's July, which means only one thing - bonus month Thumbs Up)

So with my meagre performance related bonus from "the work" I have decided, entirely selfishly and with no remorse, to squander the lot on myself. Sparing not a penny for friends, family or deserving charities. Of the many and varied treats I could spoil myself with, I've narrowed it down to two and by 'eck can I not decide which I want/need more. So, when midnight hits on 28 July do you reckon it should be this:-

carbon fibre Powertech (yes, for the VanVan). Just because.

or the badly needed Shimano 105 groupset for the GT road bike.

I realise the groupset costs about twice as much as the exhaust and it should be a no-brainer but I really can't decide. HALP!!

I think you've already made your mind up by posting this in the cycling section instead of any of the motorbike sections!

I need a new drive train on my bike at the moment and it's doing my head in so I'm going 105 groupset because I know how annoying a worn out drive train is.

Depends what bike the Groupset is going to be fitted to.

Also, look at buying groupset stuff s/h (bikeradar forums/classifieds are a good place). And dont be afraid to mix and match Shimano with SRAM or even use another chainset.

No.

Have you done your bike test?

That's what I'd be putting my money towards, if not Smile.

For the push bike - I presume your current group set is pretty knackered? Have you looked to see if it can be tweaked back to life?

Passed my test last year so no need to worry about saving cash for that at least Thumbs Up

Yes, I'm one of the rare few who actually just like the VanVan Embarassed It's a cracking little commuter bike - which in part is why I fancy the exhaust. The volume of the OEM one is comparable to a pocket sewing machine so I want something with a bit more grrr for regular riding in traffic.

...Groupset would be for my GT GTR Series 3. Sporting a pretty clapped out Tiagra set at the moment and its definitely seen better days. In terms of mileage its probably seen in excess of 25 -30k and has been nursed along as much as it can.

Guess you're right - seems like my mind is pretty much decided on groupset but the exhaust is still a bit of a must have...

Have you ridden bigger bikes for extended periods at all?
A GSXR 1000 is a 'cracking little commuter bike'... unless mpg is a big concern (which it shouldn't be for someone spending that much on an exhaust) a 125 4 stroke isn't Smile .

i'd say its a win win really, you'll enjoy either purchase.
me personally, would enjoy the grouspet more. i just took delivery of a fresh SLX casstte to complete my LX groupset for my latest build.
nothing more satisfying that fitting, lubing, tuning and riding out on a brand new complete groupset.

fresh-to-death mate! Razz

but like i said, its win win! Smile

Also, how much have you found the groupset for. Id be inclined to save up some more money and just buy a second hand bike which is better than yours (all carbon etc) with better componentry.
