Further to the problem of surging on my VFR, I decided to get a full service including valve clearances and start valve sync. No joy. Still surging on a partial throttle. It seems to be on/off within the space of a tenth of a millimetre. Brill!

Also now, instead of just being on or off, the clocks are now flashing gibberish even when the engines off.

Link to a vid of the clocks https://youtu.be/sQDvbX6HS8E

So far since I had it.
Reg/rec
Thermostat stuck open
Clocks repaired once (kept resetting)
Bad throttle response

So, if anybody can sort my clocks out I'm willing to ride to you and pay!

Should mention. 2001 vfr

Have a look on the VFR forum most of the problems are covered there on the faq, the loom fix is always worth doing first

Thanks, I had already posted there beforehand, the answers can be quite slow coming.

I wanted to offer someone cash for doing it for me, because I believe I would screw up the very first part (removing the fairing) plus I have no soldering iron or multimeter.

A friend of mine has offered to help on Friday, I'll see what happens with that.

Running out of faith with this bike. It's definitely the most unreliable machine I've owned, l want it gone. Have to spend money on tyres to get it through its MOT now though.

Even with the clocks working there's still the surging issue, taking ages to roll on the power as you come out of a turn because you know when the power comes in it will likely snap.

Please god give me a carbed bike with naff all on it.

UPDATE

Clocks are sorted!

We took the front off as per GreenVFR's guide on Bikers oracle forum (managed to do it without removing side panels) and simply cleaned the connections under the screws around the LCD display on the PCB It worked!

There didn't seem to be much corrosion, so this worked for me.

Next is a new chain and tyres, hopefully the chain should go a long way towards smoothing it out. If not, I'll live with it and think about getting a power commander in the future.
