Friend of mine at work has got a 1991 Kawasaki ZR550 Zephyr, immaculate condition but needs MOT. He (pro body sprayer) and his son (owns a few bikes and knows what he's doing), stripped it down, powder coated, sprayed, re-chromed and polished everything, new tyres and most bearings (ie wheel, headstock etc), brake pads, SS brake lines, Renthal handlebars, twin dominator headlights and prob some other bits I've forgotten, looks mint.

Anyway, should fly through an MOT, hasn't been on road since finished as he bought a GSXR and has saved it for me as I expressed an interest. I can have it for £600.

Either that or try and get a swap / px for my thing, or sell thing hopefully for around £600 and see if anything else about!

Any advice gratefully received!

BTW, I am an immature 45 year old!

Runs great, just needs carbs re-floating a bit apparently but I wouldn't have noticed!

If the engine is as good as the rest of it looks, I'd bite his hand off for £600.

I personally would ditch the dommies and fit a proper round headlight like a zed ought to have but that's a matter of personal taste. The polished alloy rims will take a bit of keeping on top of.

Be a good old bus for someone who's just passed their test though. Not too much power and weight but enough go to make life interesting.

It should be running on all four pots as soon as you start it (unless it's been sat for a long time, idle smoothly and at fairly low revs once it's warm, pickup quickly off the throttle and not make loads of smoke. Those aircooled zed motors were always tough though.

I'd have a look at how old those tyres are. Check the date code* on them, they look kind of fossilized.

*Four digit code inside an oval on the tyre sidewall, the first two are the week, the second two are the year. So todays date code would be 3013 (week 30 in 2013)

Thanks stinkwheel. Tyres were new on around 18 months ago, and it's only been rolled around a dusty garage since but will check the date and condition 1st.
