I only have 2 to compare.
The Shoei Qwest Airfoil which I think is pretty good and the Shoei Raid 2 which is noticeably quieter and makes number 10 on that list.
Having said that, I'm a big fan of earplugs, so... |

Traditionally/historically Schuberth have produced the quietest helmets and have made great play marketing/advertising that fact.
This appears to be the case as they are the top 4 in Sako's MCN quiet helmet link.
However, they are expensive. If you like the idea though Schuberth helmets are re-badged by BMW and depending on the end of season etc. deals can be cheaper.
Word of warning about Schuberth though. Try before you buy. I didn't have the right shaped head for one of the flip-up models I was interested in a while back (think they have a newer model so will have to retry).

Scorpion EXO1000.
Quietest helmet we sell by far - the airfit kinda seals out a lot of the noise & it's got a funky mech on the visor that lifts it off the seal before moving upwards, creating tighter seal etc.
Edit, a little out of budget - however they do make a 500 series helmet that does everything the thou does but weighs a bit more. Comes in at £199.99RRP. ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.

Has your bike got a screen?
Try riding and standing up on the pegs or ducking down below the screen..
If it gets quieter then the issue is not the helmet. Its how the screen is deflecting the wind. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

The odd thing is I put my hand up to open the visor today and realised the worst noise stopped when my hand was at the side of my lid. I experimented and found that its just the side of my helmet by the back of my jaw where the noise comes from, my hand was spoilng this noisy airflow. This has got me thinking about trying to fit something to the helmet to do just this. All it needs is a little spoiler.

I recently bought a Nexx Xr1r helmet, and compared to my HJC IS-16, its practically silent! Whenever i put the HJC back on its roaring in my ears
It's definitley all about strange wind flows, there is a little noise with the Nexx, but if i put my hand anywhere on the front of the helmet, its goes deathly silent...
Thats why sometimes screens for some people work brilliantly, while others its terrible.
I also get a strange problem when wearing my HJC, with a pillion on the back, my head gets buffeted side to side quite annoyingly, i'm guessing as something is creating a slight vaccum.
But with the Nexx it seems to cut through the air so much better and eliminates this ____________________ A2 Passed 18/6/10 |
