You can loosen the pinch bolt and tap it round with a punch or sometimes even turn the hub by hand in the absence of the proper tool. Depends how sticky it is.
Honda call it a pin spanner, I would call it a C-spanner but it's a really big one.
Honda part number: 89201MR8000. They're about £15. |
There would need to be a tool kit with the bike for the spanner to be included. I wasn't sure if I would be able to tap it round, I'll have a go and see what happens... worst case scenario is I can't turn it and have to buy the C-spanner anyway. |

Well I had a bash (OK tap) with a big ol' fat screwdriver and nothing budged, so decided to take it to a garage so they could do it with the proper tools.
The guy said it wasn't too slack, but could be doing with a tighten... after about 10 minutes it turns out it's seized up and will need stripped, re-greased and built up again |

I'd get some penetrating oil in there because it is an UTTER bastard to strip down and there are £150 worth of bearings in that stub axle. The nut holding it all together is done up to 140ft/lb then piked in place.
Squirt penetrating oil (not WD40) down the inside of the swingarm as well as round the outside of the eccentric pivot.
It is worth allowing this some time to work before you go tearing the whole lot apart. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |
