The ubuntu forums have been hacked. Usernames / email addresses / passwords are in the wild.

If you've been daft enough to use the same username/email/password combo somewhere else change it.

I didn't use a dictionary word, and I doubt that they have access to an NSA-stylee supercluster, so I'm going to yawn and get on with my life.

Passwords are like bikes. If someone really, really wants it, there's little much you can do, unless murdering them and all those at follow is part of your plans.

The best defence you have is to use unique passwords for each site you use. Unfortunately people are lazy and use the same one for everything.

I do online banking and use Paypal, just like the next man. I have faith that they'll keep my shit secure. If there is a leak, then you just change your password to something else.

That's part good, part bad.

Dictionary words IN a password is perfectly fine.

Dictionary words AS a password is very bad.

When ever this sort of thing comes up, always refer to this XKCD image:

https://xkcd.com/936/

Pass-phrases are the future.
