No thanks, I like the system how it currently stands, my only niggle is the lack of more, smaller margins rather than simply 4.
If they changed the taxing system to cover emission then the bikes would need to be started for the MOT which I don't necessarily think is all that fair considering how tempermental they can be. ____________________ CBT: 12/06/10, Theory: 22/09/10, Module 1: 09/11/10, Module 2: 19/01/11

I don't think vehicles should be taxed on emissions. I consider it a non-issue and believe it generally the case that larger engines = more emissions. We're taxing a biproduct of emissions rather than the core product which is engine size.
It beats the point somewhat. If it's about money, yes it'll be cheaper initially, but you know it will rise as vehicles create less and less CO2 and thus the price needs to increase because no revenue is being received. We'll be in a similar position again.
To back up the issue of 'Bikes wear the road less'. That is also a non-issue, this is the whole reason bikes are in most instances less than a quarter the price of tax than on even a modern mid sized car.
Not to mention bikes don't make all that much emmissions anyway. So what are they going to do? Tax bikes that make 0-10co2 £15, and 10-20, £30?? Yes it's less than what we pay now, but then the issue is how is that fair compared to a car of 0-10 pays no tax at all. There is no revenue in it! ____________________ CBT: 12/06/10, Theory: 22/09/10, Module 1: 09/11/10, Module 2: 19/01/11

Absolutely put it on fuel and send those Swansea slackwits back down the Pot Noodle mines.
However, without some celebrity and mainstream press backing, any "Sort it out!" campaign is going absolutely nowhere (and still paying VED).
ePetitions are counter-productive: they serve only to illustrate a lack of support. Any campaign that can hit the 100,000 threshold would be big enough to get actual political attention without a petition. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
