Nope, you're sane.

Hell, I'll nod to people if they are curtious to me, nod to people holding helmets, people parked up, cyclists who stop at lights beside me (I shout at others that don't, the little f*ckers)

I tend to wave to bikers though, but only if safe to do so(not when im filtering or not going round a bend, where a nod will suffice)

Nod, chat, follow home... its all good.

I even walked around town for about ten minutes with a chap on a 1100 Dragstar (me in sports leathers him in hells angel style studded leathers) talking bikes and the world in general. Its great cause you have something in common to chat about, you'll both have experiances and opinions on eachothers and bikes in general.

Bikers are the best breed of people, 90% will nod or wave as you go past, more than half will stop and see if you need a lift or hand when you in hassle at the side of the road. I had a guy follow me and my mate all the way home since mate had a knackered back tyre (me in front, mate in middle guy behind) and stop with us every now and again to pump it up again etc... wasted about an hour of his time but he was happy to help. Thats something you simply dont get with car drivers.

I nod or wave to everyone who's obviously a biker, even if I'm a pedestrian, if there're bikes going past, I'll nod or wave. I tend to wave at other bikers on the road, it's a bit more obvious than a nod and you can do it from further away.

My bike makes a rather distinctive (not quiet either) noise, so I rather often seem to be attracting a fair bit of attention anyway. Embarassed I must admit, I've even taken to nodding at people with L's on scooters. Most of the time they appear rather amazed and don't nod back. Either that or they're just too rude/ blind.

I've never had a scooter nod at me before I have at it though.

I've never nodded at or been nodded to; usually it's a moody stare followed possibly by a race.
Wonder if it's my black visor.

Even when you nod to them?
What you ride?

Something i find is that certain types of bikers seem to assume as if they shouldnt be nodding to others.

Cruisers - Sports
Tourers - Trailies

and so on...

Everyone on the road on a bike is in the same boat (on on the same bike... Neutral *slaps self*) and shouldnt mind what people ride or how good at it they are.

And if you nod and someone doesnt nod back, its them being the moody arse and you can ride off knowing that you were a good spirited biker and hopefully they will feel like the bitter git they are..

either that or they didnt see you.

I nod to many people all the time! Mates I see across the pub, bus drivers, cagers that make an effort to be nice to me on my bike, whenever it fits there's a nod.
Soon instead of buying a nodding dog for you car they'll be some comical nodding biker. Maybe we should patent it? Smile

I used to not at bikers wholeheartedly, I'd used to get so excited I'd not and whack my chest with my lid Laughing .

Now adays I either use the curt short nod, or the usual (and my favoured) cheeky wink nod Cool . I talk to people if they wear t-shirts with bike teams on or "OXFORD" or stuff like that.

I was walking home pissed and ended up walking next to a pissed couple, the male had a big "OXFORD" jacket on with loads of bike related sponsors. After a nice "orite mate", we wnded up talking about bikes for the next 45 minutes Laughing Cool .

Yep, I'm the same. It's being a 'biker'. It's strange because you have this 'image' of bikers that the media force feed you, when in fact bikers are just people and most of them friendly. There is a cafe in a place called Craven arms and I always have a chat with someone while I have a coffee and a smoke mid way to Cardiff.

The conversations, the nods, it's more important than what you ride. It's a sense of belonging almost.

If it resembles a motorbike I nod at it. Peds depend what mood im in. I have only ever got a nod off one ped, and thats only because I used to work with him. Otherwise if your on a bike, your a biker, you just happen to like different areas of it.

I'm on a ped (A Dna 50) and I occasionally get nods from bikers but i nod to them all no matter what. They usually seem quite surprised if i nod first because they think i'm a scally/chav. Majority of bikers don't nod at me though because i'm not on a 'real' bike. Sad But if you live in the Manchester area and see a short arse on a red Dna you better nod now you know that i'm a member of BCF! Very Happy

he bought me n my partner 4 rounds in the pub while we were chatting about bikes;) i only spent £5 n got rat-arsed

Hi

I nod or wave at everyone on a bike most of the time I
get a nod back but some times get ignored.
The other day I stopped in a lay-by for a ciggie and a
bloke on a BMW slowed up to ask if I was ok, give him the
thumbs up and he went on his way, great feeling.

Funny what people say about bikers pulling up. When I had my ZXR400 it was crap, so I'd spend more time in lay-by's. One time I had THREE bikers pull up and ask if they could help Very Happy .

I get a few nods, I nod at pretty much everyone, they rarely get returned.

I'm a friendly chap, I don't see what they can read into my bike, maybe it's the L plate, which you can't see, cuz the wind's blown it back onto the side of my wheel, so it's not the plates.

Maybe it's my riding style? Maybe it's my gear? Maybe choice of bike in the first place...?

I think it's the dreaded top box!!

Hi.

When I first started riding I thought it was odd that people were nodding at me for no reason because I didn't know anyone with a motorbike, but then I realised it was a 'bikers' only thing from hearing stuff. From then on I normally nod at anyone on any kind of motorcycle and I also get nodded back. Very Happy

Reflex, In a previous post I read it said that you were a plumber. Because I'm studying Plumbing at WhitWood College in Castleford. I think it's great, especially the practical side of things. But our end of term tests are quite hard and require an 80% pass mark. If you get 70-80% then you get verbal questioning, if you get below 70% you have failed but your allowed to resit the paper 3 times and well if you fail again your kicked of the course. But overall I really enjoy it and I'm determined to become a Plumber.

Just wondering - How did you choose to become a plumber, how long did it take for you to become one, are you self-employed? I'm really intrested in Plumbing and I will become one in a few years time. Very Happy Thumbs Up

Thanks Dan.

I'll apologise for being a cynical unhelpful bugger, but here we go...

3 resits?! Luxury I tell you! Here you get one, which if you fail you're out of uni.

Viva, Very Happy

I've been doing it about 2 years now mate, on and off. Used to do Air-Conditioning when I was 17, and the same firm did plumbing, so I spent about 6 months on the plumbing side and enjoyed it. Was out of work for a while and my dad managed to get me a place at his firm and I've been there since. I enjoy it as well, apart from having to go round sorting out people's leaks. We've got a bloke same age as me (21), just finished college and think's he's the nuts. Problem is, he's quick second fixing sanitary ware, but hasn't quite got the hang of masticing traps and making sure ballofix's are done up, so when I fill up I've got leaks everywhere Confused . The other day he drilled out the flue's for 2 boilers and got them abut 200mm too high, as well as piping up the gas to the return on the boiler. He's the guvnor's son though so I doubt he really gives a sh1t. I'm not "fully" qualified myself, but I know the ropes and get the feeling I'll be doing it for the rest of my life really, I enjoy site work and I like using my brain rather than just packing boxes or whatever. Stick at it mate, it'll be worth it Thumbs Up .

Reflex,

The course that I'm doing is 2 years long, so after passing the course I'll probably become and apprentice for a while to get the hang of things and see what its actaully like working on site or someone's property. Then after that I think I'll probably work for a good company, work my bollocks off until my early 30's to get enough money to get a good house then consider going into self-employment for the rest of my working life. Very Happy
