Hello all! i am currently on a dtr project and bumped into a issue! when you start the bike.. it revs its tits off!! now just to inform you i took it on as a project.. certainly not road legal! no kill swtich.. so only way i cut the engine is by lifting the ht leed of the spark and getting a numb arm! that's not the problem.. the carb its self is fooked.. the choke dont work, and all the brass ajustables are completely buggerd! its a mikuni flat carb! the exhaust manifold has about a 2mm gap between its self and the cylinder head! i already now that it is running hot quick and revvin high because of the extra air intake and starting to have suspicion the carb settings are all wrong! (bike came from a pykey) swapped a 318iscoupe for the bike as the beemer was a beaten up drift car that had its fair share or spankin!!!! the cylinder head bolt (one of them) is bent which is why manifold dont sit flush, but i have bent it back and replaced exhaust gasket, sits nice now. but i cannot find a carb like the one i have anywhere!!! it has two hoses from the back of the head which attach to the carb! im really struggling to find this carb! any suggestions?? many thanks.. dan!

They haven't changed much since the 80s, does this fit/look like yours:

Sounds like you've got your hands full with this one.

You got a bike from a travelling fellow? Laughing

I think the obvious mechanical problems are an issue but are you sure the bike isn't stolen?

I have rebuilt a few bikes and this one is going to take a while, but will be uploading pics to show how it is coming on! And also creating a youtube account showing bits and pieces as i go along, there is no videos on youtube of dtr's being built whoch is a shame as they arnt that hard to work with! Just to show younger ones how a few things are done! But the project is going to be a xomplete off roader, any susgestions what carbs will fit the dtr anyone?? Many thanks for your posts!

Were it me, I'd be double checking with the police that the 'papers' you have got are genuine.

Well, I'd have done that before.

I'm sure it can't be unusual to either fake them or use one set to sell twenty stolen bikes.

Don't need a kill switch to be road legal if you've got a key.

I'd just get a new carb.

Rev cable stuck open?

As for the carbs on these hard to find cheap. Wouldn't waste my time on a DTR if it isn't going on the road. Extremely under powered compared to a real MX 125 2 smoker. Wink

As for pulling the HT lead off whilst it is running... Why? Shocked Just block the exhaust, it'll make it harder to start next time and it blocks it up but it wouldn't give you a shock.

To be honest i have ordered a universal kill switch lol i have had all the cables of and none are corroded or sticky! I wont be keeping it for myself just a fix up jobby and sale on, i have done one for a mate who couldnt keep up with us on our mx bikes, so i built him a off road dtr for him to poodle of road and learn the basics! Im use to me old yz250 so this dtr wont be giving me any thrills lol like i said just a project! Any ideas where to find a flat carb for it?
