Hi folks,

My lass' dad gave her 5 new wheels w/ tires for her Micra, the tires on her existing ones are totally shot.

Went to fit 'em today and the bore in the centre of the new wheels is 2mm smaller than the existing ones, so they won't go on.

Can I change the hub ring thing to fix this, or do the tires need to come off the wrongly-sized wheels?

Sadly, the wheels won't quite fit in my lathe, else I'd just bore em out!

Cheers,
Rich

Easiest way is just to change the tyres

Hi

Suppose it might be possible to take the hub off and machine that down to fit, but probably far easier to just swap the tyres over.

Also saves worrying about whether the offset is OK, whether the bolt pcd is correct and having to machine another hub down should you ever need to replace one.

All the best

Keith

most tyre places ( the ones ive used before) have changed tyres for £5 each in beer tokens. so you might get them all done for £20 inc the spare
just go mid week and its a job they tend to pass on to the trainee as a pocketmoney job

Tyre swap for sure, most places would charge <£20 to swap 4 over in about 20 minutes.

Can't you get them under the milling machine and bore through the hole?

If the 'new' wheels are a nice set of alloys, and are better than the current fit, I'd get them bored out to suit the hubs.

If they're a scabby old set, or a set of steelies, then get the tyres changed.

Of course, a lot depends whether the PCD of the wheel bolts is the same and whether the offset is within suitable limits for the car.
