The initial part is sorted but there will always be something, so I ask what have I forgotten?

Contents insurance? Get your name taken off bills for old place if it is on any of them (gas, water, electric & council tax). Have you got the inventory for the new place? Double chack it and take pics of anything the landlord / letting agent may try and screw you over for.

Check windows opening & closing, washing machine door and if the tops of the cupboards have been cleaned. In all correspondence with letting agent / landlord make sure it is via email or text so you have a written dated record of any problems you have found and when you brought it to their attention. Take pics of everything, make notes and add it to the inventory if you are not happy with anything.

In my limited experience letting agents are sub human scvm out to screw you for whatever cash monies they can. Oh and they are also damn useless at getting problems sorted, good luck.

Take pics/video of the entire property and any/all damage at the key handover so you don't get shafted when it's time to leave, Get them to sign them or send them by e-mail.

Did you tell the post office/bank insurance?

Tell DVLA about it - licence, V5(s). Also tell insurance company.

Ask for an itemised breakdown of the £225 'admin fee' what are they doing to earn £225? Take pics of inside microwave and oven.

You can pay to have mail re-directed for X amount of time.
Change address with your bank.

Don't forget to change your address on v5 documents and driving license.

Currently going through the same thing, moving on Thursday and I'm bound to forget something.

Like someone else said you can have mail redirected, that way you've got a bit of catch all if you have forgotten to change your address for something.

Following on from Joncrete, you should also list any damage at all, including things like peeling paint, mould, weeds in the garden. Anything that isn't on the inventory but present should be listed. Check the carpets for stains and cleanliness. If there's a garden, take photos, cos you will have to put it back to that state when you leave. If anything isn't clean, tell the agency straight away. Take photos of everything.

Might seem a bit over the top but will help you keep your deposit!

Not going to help you, but when I rented, I found the landlord a lot more accomodating than a letting agency. Those f**k**s are worse than insurance agents.

don't forget to read meters and update / close accounts
cancel / re-route any subscriptions such as newspapers and magazines
