I have gone from a cheap 5.1 Phillips setup to a decent Behringer active monitor pair. Now I have had lots of issues since my new PC build with interference and although they are brilliant, they are studio monitors and lack the oomph that you get from speakers designed for listening and not mastering.

So, basically I want a sub. 2.1 or 5.1

It needs to be able to be played LOUD without it crackling at the top end. I have been looking at the z906 5.1 whilst it is awesome, I worry due to the physical dimensions of the satellite speakers, it will struggle with loud music. It is also very expensive so don't want to get it and have to sell it on after because it isn't any good.

I was looking at Klipsch promedia 2.1 which are supposed to be amazing but £200 for 2.1 is a lot AND still has the physical dimension issue. If that really is an issue.

So, does anyone here have a speaker setup, 2.1 or 5.1 that can be played LOUD in a normal sized room. I like to whack Joe Bonamassa up to ear damaging levels you see.

EDIT: Z-5500 which is the 5.1 predecessor to the z906 looks like a good option at the moment. Can be got 2nd hand for £140.

I have a pair of adam a7xs and they have the oomph in terms of frequency but they are not colored at all and they go loud, they might be worth a shot if you did want studio monitors, they go quite low too when pushed at decent volume

these must be good on HUKD

although they only go to 50hz are are 2.0

I thought about getting a set of them a few years ago, and still would. Even though they've been around for a good few years they still look good IMO

Mind you I'm still using a set of Cambridge Soundworks I got with the Sound Blaster Live in '99 (no idea what happened to the card, but the speakers are still going strong)

I have a Z5500,

it is the tits, Thumbs Up

I had my first issue with it the other day after about 4 years. It doesn't like having the power to it killed and replugged in with a headphone jack in it. It freezes the unit. Easy enough to sort turn it off and remove the jack and turn it on but it worried me for a while!

Looking at the reviews the 5500's are much better than the 906's

Do they go loud loud? And not just overpowering bass loud, I mean clarity loud. Would they be suitable for a living room setup having a party?

I had it at about 3/4 volume, too loud for my room, I didn't have it for long but I didn't hear any thing nasty.

Cheers.

They seem to be going for £130-£160 for a used set. Z906 are going for ~£200. Such hard decisions!

Here's what I have, mixed with a xonar sound card think its the DG variant which is cheap and shitty and I must say they are loud enough to bring the house to a rage and they've lasted me 4 years now.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LOGITECH-X530-5-1-SURROUND-SOUND-SPEAKER-SYSTEM-BLACK-/230705544236?pt=UK_Computing_Speakers&hash=item35b71f3c2c

Just had a quick look round ebay and there are loads dirt cheap, I only get crackling etc from poor sources of media, I love listening to crisp clear music so I like to think I know what I'm on about, might be wrong they might be shit and I'm unaware of it! Laughing

I don't doubt the quality, Logitech are usually pretty good BUT they are (spec wise) the weaker version of the z5500. In terms of power anyway.

I might be arranging the purchase of a used set of z5500 for a tad over £100 right now and I will be very happy.

Anyone want a pair of studio monitors? RRP £300, open to offers of ~£120. Behringer B2031A TRUTH.
