Someone, probably after much intoxication last night, has been pushing scooters over in bike bays.

Saw two this morning on Paul Street, London, EC2

I picked the one that was in my bay up, then noticed another further up the street.

The one I picked up has scratches on the back pannel an had dumped some petrol.

Not funny or clever.

Wonton vandalism of people's personal property pisses me right off. No point, ever, and no matter how drunk I've ever been, I've never thought it a good idea to smash someone's stuff up.

I'd also be inclined to leave it well alone.

Owner comes back and someone is lifting his bike up... instantly gonna think you did it. Also if someone walks past, grabs a photo as they think you did it...

How safe are Top boxes in London? Do they get messed about with? Planning on nipping to the South Kensington area in the next few days and wanted to leave my lid and a few things in the top box.

Yeah, I have seen bikes on their side before.. see here: https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=264404&highlight=

General consensus is leave it for the owner. If you'd had dropped it again picking it up, well then now you're partly to blame for damage.

South Kensington is not too bad an area, lots of other top boxes around in Central London and if it's parked on street in view of public I wouldn't have a problem leaving mine (if it had a top box) there.

When I lived in London I got home one day to find my bike lying on its side in the road, spewing petrol all over the place. I assumed someone had knocked it over in a parking incident and legged it until I looked a little closer and found a boot-print on the side of the seat.
