I absolutely detest my new job, shame really because the wife who runs the business with her husband just cant stop interfering and telling me to do things the absolute opposite way of what her husbands says.
I keep getting caught in the middle of them rowing about what im actually doing. I applied for an ops position to take over from him but she now maintains im just admin even though I am in charge over the tecnicians and admin office!!, and I have finally lost patience with the situation. I get on brilliantly with absolutely everyone and even her as long as i keep the conversation about anything but the job.
I want to look for something else but not sure how bad it will look on my cv as ive only just passed the three month probation period.
Im starting to get stressed.
How do I escape with minimum fall out?

Ask formally for a job description what and how you're supposed to do something to be codified?

I've been in such a situation, two senior managers, both wanted different things you couldn't do one thing without the other being annoyed.

It ended with me going else where (yes it was a husband wife team)

Nightmare situation Scorps, never, ever work for a husband and wife team, unless you already know them. If you get on with everyone so well, is there not an opportunity to set your own company up and steal all the staff? Sorry, don't know what you're doing, so this may not be possible.

im updating my CV, Im sure if I get an interview elsewhere they will not hold it against me if i just explain that the job wasnt what id applied for and I wasnt happy.

It would cheer me up no end if you bought me a nice new motorcycle with your amazing inheritence when you get it by the way Wink

Unless you've changed a few times within a short period, any sort of plausible reason is normally good enough.

Im just tired, she sits and totally takes over everything, today i took a call from a client and by the time I put the phone down I had an email asking me why I hadnt filed one that had come in while I was on the phone. She moans about not getting her stuff down but f shes sat monitoring my every fecking move on the computer its no wonder. Everyone else says oh you get used to it but im like no thanks. It isnt personal but im probably not prepared to get shouted at or talked to like Im a child. The men can disappear but the other girls get it too.

To be honest if its raised in interview, so long as you do it in a tactile manner and not just 'i hated my boss Evil or Very Mad ' and explain the management was in constant disputes and it was hindering your ability to work and feel you were able to progress in your role, i wouldn't think most employers would consider that a negative - as with most of the cv and interview, its not really what you put, but how you put it.

I expect a lot would personally.
Because they'd worry that it wasn't that the company that was terrible but that it was her - however, in some cases I'm sure they may see it from her point of view and it could well be a positive.

I've been not entirely complimentry about the management of a previous company in an interview, however the people interviewing me I'd already gathered weren't too impressed with said people who they'd had previous dealings with.

As to leaving so soon, I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Can even suggest it was just a 'temporary' thing to get you back on your feet (not clarifying contract lengths etc) and you're now looking for your permanent full time position, despite not being pushed, etc

Fair point, i suppose its weighing up the 'consequences' as you see likely of them thinking you were actually the issue vs why you left the previous employer so soon.

Id never consider badmouthing a company at an interview, totally bad form. Just never applied for another job so soon after starting one before. There has been a really high turnover here and the person l replaced was sacked for telling her to F off. l am hiding today Wink

I left my last place after 8 months, I know it's not 3 months like yourself but it's not what I'd call long term, either.

Didn't hinder me at all getting another job. In the interview for this place I just said it wasn't what I was told it'd be, and I wanted to progress, better myself etc etc. Been at this place nearly four years now. Had been at the place before the 8 month job 4-5 years too which I imagine showed I wasn't one for swapping jobs willy nilly unless there was a valid reason Very Happy

You'll be fine Thumbs Up

I'd sit them both down and clarify maybe with a copy of the job description if you have it.

If you don't get satisfactory answers tell them you ain't happy and will go elsewhere.

Never ever do a previous employer down in an interview. Just say that you stayed for a while and you didn't feel like the role suited you.

This ^^^. What is there to gain from it? Just say it wasn't the role you thought it was going to be. But, make sure you have some examples of what you thought you were going to do, as they're bound to ask what it was that didn't suit you.
