We have similar locks for the Super-Dream. It has a rack & top box. I have ridden with them in there.
Super-Dream is long and low for a 125, and the weight isn't hung that far over the back axle, but it IS noticeable. On a taller, shorter Trail-style bike, it would be worse.
But, its more the fact that the chain will shift about inside the box! If you can strap it down so it wont wriggle, it can be tolerable. I think I have had about 25Kg in the top box on the S-D before now.. I certainly knew it was there, but it wasn't unsufferable, but packed so I had to squash the lid down to lock it... nothing was shifting.
I wouldn't there for reccomend it, especially for a learner.
I'd advice you get a good, sturdy six hook cargo net, and a bag; something like a small knap-sack, and put locks in that, then use cargo net to tie it down on the pillion perch of the seat.
Bungeed it is a lot less likely to shift, and ahead of the rear wheel spindle, and probably a good inch or so lower then the bottom of the top-box, the weight is in a much 'better' place between the axles, aiding balence.
Meanwhile... Almax is rather short.... what you going to do with it when you get anywhere?
If you cant lock it round anything fixed to the floor, like a ground anchor... and can only put it through a wheel.... it's really just an incredibly heavy and bulky disc lock! They might not be able to lop it off in a hurry.... but wont stop-em lifting bike in the back of a van!
We only tend to use the Almax at home, through the ground anchor.
Out and about' she has: steering lock; alarm, disc-lock, and a 5m 'cable'. Cable weighs bog all, and rolls up small. Has advantage you can 'lasoo' the ends to extend reach to some bit of street furnature to stop a wheel away, and lock other end round a frame rail. Sure, it wont stand up to a hefty pair of bolt croppers, but not meny oportunists are going to be walking around with a pair of 5ft sutters down thier slacks, are they! And if they are coming tooled up for the job... they are gonna be tooled up for the job! Whatever you use! Disckie is visible deterant, to detur opportunist, and wheel-away. Cable to hard-point deturs the lift-away.
But if they really want it, they WILL have it... last bike we had nicked, they broke in the fucking house to get the keys for! ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!
