Took out a third party quote with bikesure, payed the deposit and got an email with a letter attached saying to ring them as a matter of urgency. I rung them up they asked if i was a student and if i worked, then the girl on the phone started quizzing me about the 6000 annual mileage i had put down. They then ask me to send them a letter confirming i am a student, only thing is i won't find out till the 25th august if i have gotten a place on my course. They also asked me to fill in a document they will send me with the mileage of the bike and sign it etc. Anyone have any advice, i feel like ringing up and canceling the policy now.

I've never been asked about mileage and I always put down <3000.

As far as I know it covers you on the motorcycle, not your friend who took it to Europe for 3 months nor mileage counted on racetracks or private roads... so having clocks that started the policy at 35,057 and at policy end were 48,591 is perfectly legitimate.

They will have to try and prove otherwise.

The girl on the phone kept asking how far away my college was and work was and if i would be using the bike. I told her both my college and workplace was within 10 minutes walking distance from my house. I think they don't believe me that's why.

I've been asked for the mileage of the bike once at the start of the policy. But as paddy said, it isn't legally binding.

The student thing is odd. Did they state is has to be from your Uni/College? If not, just write a letter from yourself confirming you are indeed a full time student on course X.

The girl said because on previous quotes i had put down full time instead of a student i need to send them a student card or letter confirming i am a student. However it's a regional college and my interview isn't till 22nd of august, so i won't find out till about the 24th of august. The reason i didn't put student down on the other quotes because those were months ago and i hadn't applied for college back then.

Just have to call up and explain that to them. You're unemployed until you officially start the course I suppose...maybe you'll get someone less dickish on the line.

First thing I'd suggest that you do is stop speaking to them on the phone, or at least not exlusively. If they're going to spack things up and/or accuse you of being a fraudster, get a clear written record of it.

Best strategy might be to write down your situation (once, rather than explaining it half a dozen times to different goldfish-brans), then say "Right, now you decide which of your pigeonholes I fit into."

At the first hint of them cancelling the policy, you're straight off to the Ombudsman.

I was wondering if i could fill the mileage in to be higher than what it is? Cause say theres 11000 miles on it and i fill the document in saying there's 16000. Would that work or would they know by the mot document, as the bike just passed mot 6 hours ago...whayeee Very Happy

A mate of mine was asked to send a picture of his milometer (car) a few years ago. Was a mk1 Golf on a classic policy though.

O.o I'v never been asked to prove if I was a student or to confirm the mileage in a formal letter. That's way more hastle then it's worth.

If you lied anyway then they would try and use that information as a reason not to pay out incase of a policy claim. Thats a benefit to them in the end, don;t know why their going to such trouble over a few details

Try Carol Nash, I've been happy with them and their call centre people are a cut above the usual retards. Tell them to bung me a drink for the new business intro.
