Ok, well I'm kind of thinking ahead a bit here and not entirely sure if I'm doing the right thing as I've got a bit on my mind at the moment.
Basically I've got my 1988 KMX200 pretty much fully stripped down now and stored away in the garage. I saved £2000 to spend on restoring/modifying/re-building the thing, but have come to a bit of a stop.

I've got a car in there now as well that just needs a few things doing, but lots more stuff to make it mint and how I want it. It's only an old car (but it's still pretty decent to me/am attached to it), so I want to get it back on the road and do everything I can to get it as mint as possible as it would make me happy to see everything gleaming and all how I want it within reason. The car is in the way of me doing any further work on the bike, and until I've got the car back on the road I wanted to keep it in the garage, and I always planned to do the car first and then the bike once I get my garage back.

I havn't done anything much with either vehicle though for months, and it's been a lack of interest/motivation and enthusiasum, which sounds terrible, but I believe it's mostly been work related stress/depression that has been stopping any progress and stopping me doing the stuff I enjoy or even wanting to enjoy stuff, until my work situation is better and more enjoyable/content.

I've been wasting too much time this year doing not a lot, and it's only running, swimming and mountain biking that I can motivate myself to do which is fine, but im missing out on other hobbies and interests and have wasted 6months tax and MOT on the car doing nothing with it.

To add to the situation I have had some medical issues lately, and my doc has told me I might have a more serious issue that could affect me in many ways. It's all uncertain at the moment, and so it could be nothing major, but it could be depending on what my scans/and examinations reveal.

Now after all this waffle what I want to know is would it be best for me to shelve the idea of getting my bike re-built this year and keep it as a long term plan. Obviously this means that the only project I've got is getting my car back on the road and made nice. So should I go out and spend my £2k or some of it on another bike and at least get back on the road on two wheels and enjoy a bit of the summer/autum while I can? I've not had a bike on the road since summer 2008, so im far from desperate to get a road bike again, and I don't need one for commuting etc, but I'm thinking all things considered I should maybe go buy a bike soon, and enjoy it in case I'm unable to ride for a while and that if that happens I might regret having a project and some cash, when I could have been out riding a bike and honing for a bit instead?

Sorry for long post, but has anyone got any thoughts, should I MTFU and get on with my projects, or go find me a bike and have some fun instead?

to be honest it sound like you have already made your mind up, the cars is in the garage, where are youo gonna keep the new bike.

if you are really that desperate just pick up a cheap 125, heck a semi good gs500, cb500 and er500 can all be picked up for less than £1k, with a bit of shopping around they can be had for around £500. maybe a few hundred on insurance and still have some money to get which ever project rolling.

all i would say is, consider yourself lucky that you have finances to allow you to do a project, i have a few prpojects on the go atm, i have the drive to do them, i just done have the finances.

the probel you are having i pruely personal and nothing more than a cry for attention

Steve,

You've had that KMX for donkeys years. Either fix it or get shot. Whenever you post you mention your KMX somewhere, so If I were you I'd bite the bullet and fix it. At the end of the day you only live once, and you obviously love that bike.

That said, you could probably pick up a working KMX for a grand if you tried hard enough.

Although, reading your post back it sounds like you have the same issue with the car. Personally if it were me I'd have got shot of both by now and bought a working car and a working bike, but that's just me. You are obviously attached to both, so why not just get both working? All it takes is a little momentum and you'll have them both back together before you know it.

Marjay,
Fuck it your right there dude! Had the KMX since 2005 and it's spent less than a year on the road in all that time, how crazy is that!

I'm obviously going to stick with it and yeah, if I can't do it yet then it will be this year's winter project, but want to make a start before then. Part of the reason I stalled for so long was I didn't know if it was worth restoring or not, when I could have gone and spent that kind of money on a newer enduro bike, but even something like a KTM250EXC wouldn't be as ideal for road use, and I don't have a history or attachment to KTM's just KMX's lol!

I'm off work next week, and will get a battery for the car and and at least get it out of the garage and make a start on sorting it. I'm not mega attached to the car, but like the bike I've had two Rover 220 coupe's, and what else I'd get instead would send me into a conundrum lol!

Will probably keep an eye on local bikes on ebay though, and have a word with my local dealer, as if a 2stroke 125 comes in, in decent condition, I can always buy it and then sell it on when I need some more parts for the KMX. Can at least get the powercoating done and have some wheels built for now. I've lost a bit of interest in building the motor or doing paintwork, but that can all be sorted after.

Sorry for the drama queen post guys, I know what to do now and am going to get off my arse and do it!

Dude, you have reasonable taste in bikes, but you have terrible taste in cars!

Get shot of the Rovers and buy an MX5 for £1200. Then use the rest of the cash to fix up the KMX on the cheap.

2000 will buy you a KTM EXC and an awful lot of fuel/spare parts for rebuilds etc Smile.

Ok, an EXC and a second bike for the road.

I wouldn't be spending £2k on an KMX unless I had a good £50k+ put away for other fun, lots of time and a real desire for that bike.

Might consider in your situation getting a second EXC - always useful to have two bikes the same, even if you end up restoring your current one, you can swap parts and the like to test stuff, or choosing the better part for the better bike.

Well fook me!
Look what's popped up less than 5miles from me. Shocked
Lots of watcher's and bidder's and I don't know what would be a fair price to pay for one this nice £1500?

Might have a little bid anyway, what do you think?
