weather permitting, i'll be giving my CG some love as per the following:
oil change
new chain and sprockets
new fork oil seals (and oil)
fork gay-tors (FTW) i even looked at getting blue ones to match the Honda blue - but settled for black which is less douchey.
new rear brake pads.
will also be attempting to remove the rust thats accumulated on the rear rim and spokes plus exhaust, as well as touching up the surface rust on the swing arm with some hammerite.
lots to do, first time doing it as well, but i'm loving the simplicity of my CG. can't imagine letting it go when i get my full licence.
if i had the space, i'd get a red one too. love Honda CGs in red

its in generally good shape - only done 5K, but was sat outside for about a year - the rear wheel took the brunt of the rust - its also out of true with some small damage to a couple of the spokes.
everything on it is original as far as i can tell - looking forward to ironing out the creases on this bike, should do me well for a long time! |

i'm no stranger to polishing up a bit of chrome (done it on push bikes it the past) very satisfying!
got my dremel and polishing compounds ready.
is there a safe point to support the bike while i work on it? i.e. the oil sump (putting some chocks under it to hold it in place while the wheels are off)??
the bike has a centre stand, but dont want it see-sawing while i'm working on it! |

Nothing will be more stable than the centre stand. Put something under the front or rear wheel so it doesn't see saw. Simples!
Good luck with the service, should be fairly easy! ____________________ Riding: BMW R1150RT `02 bought mildly crashed

UPDATE: did the chain and sprockets easily enough - touched up some rusty parts on the swingarm as well in the process and cleaned up the rear drum (didnt need to replac the pads).
went to do the forks yesterday - ended up drilling the bolt out as it wasnt budging and got rounded off in the process
however, when i pulled the bolt out, we realised we hadnt gone completely central, so have taken out some of the threads from the oil damper rod......
so i'm either going to find myself a new damper rod and bolt, or get new forks - dont know what the other fork is like - didnt have time to tackle that one to see what it was like.
a few things i noticed about the fork leads me to believe the oil seals were replaced before - as there were hack marks all over the lower leg near the oil seal:

here is the oil damper rod (?) and bolt....

so, the question is, can i get the oil damper rod and bolt separately? or will i need to get a set of forks as spares/donors and take the risk that the bolts on those are removeable? or just bite the bullet and get a new set for £80? |
