Right i know exactly what your going through, i did mine 2 weeks ago almost and i was worried just like you,
firstly they will give you a nice long talk, showing u what various parts of the bike does ect ect stupid things like whats this, " a break" you reply.
step 2, they go though the checks you should do on a bike again its still a talk but not as long.
step 3, then its time to handle the bikes, you will be told to walk your bike around a cone or something like that then stop and wait. When every 1 else has done it you will be told to start your engines and wait for further instruction.
step4 riding the bikes (fun bit)
you will have to pull away and they will tell you to ride around the playground or where ever you are doing your cbt, they will watch you and you will be told to stop at a marked out cone line, you keep doing this untill you get it right.
then they will send you riding again and call you in one by one to do a emergency stop, you will do this 2 or 3 times depending on how well you did it.
after that you get into the hardest part, but again you do it till you can do it, now you have the figure of eights and the u turns, these are self explanatory so i wont bore you with these, the cones you have to go around for a figure of eight are about a meter apart, its not hard though.
step 4, junctions, you will have junctions made out of cones and you will be told how to approach a junctions and what to do at a junction. I think the best bit of advice i was given for this was if you can cross the road on foot walking you can pull out onto the road. You will be taught how to life saver check, use mirrors and indicate ect ect.
Step 5. the best part riding on the road. Its perfectly normal to be nervous, at first i was. after about 10 minutes you get the hang on it and start enjoying it by the end u dont want to get off.
on the road the instructor will go in front of you and tell you what to do over intercom for example " were taking this next left, as we approach the turning check your mirrors, signal, lifesaver check (if needed) then turn. He does it as well and if you copy him you will be fine. You might also be asked to perform a U turn on the road which will be a non busy one. Then you ride back and get your certificate.
If you are not given your certificate which is highly unlikely! you should be called back for another day free of charge to make sure you do.
If your unlucky you will get a twat for an instructor, but like the most of us you will get a good one who is very helpful funny and considerate like mine was.
Things to do to prepare, have a look through the highway code booklet its a pound 50 or something, its worth doing.
get an early night. and have breakfast as its a long tiering day.
Bits of driving advice like i said above only pull out if you think you could cross the road walking, and for riding look where you want to go, not at your front wheel or at the floor. it well help you greatly on your figure of eights and U turns.
Also when your on the road ride for yourself, at a junction if your instructor and the other person riding with you has pulled away, dont feel pressured to go, go when its safe to do so no matter how long it takes, your instructor should stop along with the other rider. this is so you dont pu yourself or anyone else in danger.
Good luck with the cbt, hope this helps
If you want to ask any more questions just send me a pm or add me to hotmail, ill happily answer if i can. ____________________ Ride Fast, Brake hard, don't fall off! |
