So, in my 9th month of riding, I've had my first off. Bit of a crappy one really, I suspect too much front brake whilst leaning slightly on a white line or something. Entirely my fault, came out from under the bridge (south of pic) getting ready to go on the motorway north, they've put bloody traffic lights on the roundabout now and the car in front stopped quickly as the light turned. I wasn't anticipating stopping as the light before it had just gone green so was accelerating and wasn't positioned well to grab the amount of front brake I did!
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v144/damaja/image-7.jpg

Ended up falling at about 5 mph and kissing the VW in fronts bumper. Had some very nice people help me up and wheel my bike out of the way and checked I was okay. The woman driving the VW can't have been too bothered because she shouted if I was okay before driving off.

Damage, few scrapes and a bent crash bung (did its job!) but a completely random, fist sized dent in the fuel tank. I dropped the bike on the right and the dent is on the left, so no idea how it happened. Possibly from the VW.

Fist sized dent. Think I might be able to get that straightened out and resprayed?

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v144/damaja/image-5.jpg
Did its job pretty well I say!

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v144/damaja/image-3.jpg
I think that would have been a lot worse without the crash bungs.

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v144/damaja/image-6.jpg
Tore the extra padding, but the glove held up well underneath. My hands are fine, not a scratch or bruise.

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v144/damaja/image-4.jpg
The only scrape I received. I was wearing regular jeans, but they didn't rip, so I suspect I would have grazed myself even in my textiles. Had my Furygan jacket on, few little scrapes on it, but the armour probably saved my elbow and shoulder from being fucked up. All round, good show from my kit.

Not much else to say really, there was loads of traffic today, so I should have slowed my riding down, I was rushing about like a twat all afternoon. Just bought myself a new lid, so I'm blaming my crash on that. £400+ Shoei GT Air and I almost put it to use! Luckily my head didn't touch anything, so I'm not buying a new(er) one!

Ho Hum, bad obs?

Glad you're ok, just buy a new tank off of ebay, it'll probably work out cheaper than trying to fix though one.

Cheapest way to fix that tank will be fill it and respray.

What made they dent in the tank? The bars or your balls? Seems odd that it went over onto the right, yet dented the left side.

Remove the tank, drain all the fuel then pour a cupful back in, drop a match in and close the lid. This won't fix the tank, but it'll look spectacular.

Then buy a new tank.

In all seriousness, dents of that size usually cost more to work out than a breaker replacement off eBay or a parts yard one. Might have to hunt a bit to find one in that particular dark green but it'll be worth it.

I know someone who repairs things like this, he repaired and resprayed my entire car door and rear quarter for like £200. I'll give him a call and see what he says. I already looked on eBay and can only see already damaged fuel tanks.

Oh, and my bike is black Laughing

Man - that's a fair old dent for 5mph!

I came close this morning, btw - just getting out of the drive. Fuck. One car passed, there was another a couple of seconds behind that I just didn't see at all. Embarassed Front forks dived, I can tell yer.

Surprised the woman you hit drove off as it would be your fault if she claimed. Must have not damaged the car too badly

I literally have no idea how the tank got dented, possible tow bar on the car? I don't think the person I went into even got out the car, knowing Luton, she probably was an illegal with no insurance or licence.

And no they're not girls socks! They are Tommy Hilfiger and they've got a red and white band around the toes.

Perhaps a dent from the left side of the handlebar hitting the tank..?

I had a look at how far the bars can go, it's completely out of reach. It might have been from my armoured elbow as I went down. Could the fuel tank be dented by the metal armour on my jacket? My left arm on the jacket is a bit scraped up, so something definitely went on there!

Round here the council have been putting traffic lights at all the exits of roundabouts.
Fucking stupid thing todo IMO.

It's not so bad for car drivers, but for bikers it is incredibly dangerous.

Perhaps your leg or boots hit the tank as you came off?

Should invest in some Kevlar jeans too. Thumbs Up

Bad Obs Very Happy Glad you're OK. Whatever caused that dint in the lower right of the photo looks to be small and hard. Could be the tow-bar, but surely you'd remember if your bike was that far under her car.

Are they power bands, and do they make you faster?

Wow that's a proper dent. Glove looks like it did a good job. GWS and I'm glad your socks came out unscathed, they're very nice.

Yeah okay, okay. The socks aren't *that* bad. But it would be good if, after that pink coach-line detailing, they went into a totally different colour - instead of reverting to the all-too-predictable black. Yellow would obviously be quelle outré - and you certainly wouldn't want a shade that would clash (such as a red). I'm going to suggest - albeit tentatively - a powder blue. Can you even imagine?!? True, it would in the eyes of many raise further questions vis a vis your masculinity. But think of it this way - any such doubts will be immediately off-set by the fact that you ride a motorbike. I reckon.
