Cool. Always fancied sticking a big 2 stroke mx engine in a decent 125 chassis.

Would be tempted to do that with a (Honda) RS125 and a 250mx engine for the mini-singles series bemsee is holding.. but alas no time or money.

By the way... please note the signature rules; No pictures or sigs over three lines high.

That's an impressive bike you've got there mate, and I bet that'll be fun to ride over winter Smile

I have seen a RD350 engine in an old lambretta before which to be honest is a scary thought, that looks like a lot of fun though.

Has the engine had any tuning work (I don't know what the usual power output of the RZ350 is?).

Cheers

Joe

I'd say 70bhp is standard. most people will concern themselves with getting it in the bike before shelling out on a tune up.

Very impressive bike!!!

Although, personally I'd have shoved in a 4 stroke 250 or 400 if the frame could take it Smile

70hp is not standard, I think it's something like 55 or so, depending on state of tune, model and age etc. Plenty of easy tuning options though.

Something that occurred to me, is what do they do with all those acres of space between the tank and the engine? Air cooling? Confused Or just leave a huge gap because there isn't anything to go there?

Or perhaps, they just use the extra space created by the small horizontal 2t engines to put in a massive fuel tank. It's not as if they don't need all the fuel they can get. Razz

very nice, very neat! That Mito chassis looks like it was made for the YPVS! Im doing a college night class on MC maintainence/workshop, and one of the Tutors has 2 LC350's one heavily modded with KR1 wheels, forks, and clocks, JMC rear end, and a YPVS motor.
Has anybody seen last months streetfighters magazine? It has a KMX400 supermoto bike, using a GSXR400 engine, in a modified frame. It looks brilliant, and has got me thinking if i could get a bigger engine in mine, though i very much doubt il ever do it, as im going to spend a fair amount on the std 200cc unit, and get some decent power out of that. I think a CRM250/RMX250 engine with autolube might slot in easy enough though.

Thats a bit crap Sad
RGV/RS's make 60bhp and their 100cc down on the YPVS.

https://www.bdkraceeng.com/RGV500%20Conversions.html

I would so do that if i had the money! thats about as close to a 500GP bike you can get on the road.

It is a 5 year older design of engine making basically the same power as the RGV / RS. The hot 250s didn't manage to get near its power until the RGV / KR1 came out, with the original TZR250 managing 45hp, and the RG250 stuggling to get over 40. Was quite a common conversion to build a YammaGamma, sticking the RD350YPVS engine into an RG250 chassis.

The RD was also a fairly good bike to use with a pillion, and quite useable at low revs.

From memory the F1 version of the power valve was the best basis for tuning as the ignition system was better at high revs. The later F2 wasn't so good.

All the best

Keith

Yeah but a 60bhp YPVS engine will run long after a 60bhp KR1/RGV has gone pop. The extra capacity for similar power give the 350YPVS a reliability advantage. Added to that is the fact there are about 5-6 Re-bore sizes should it wear out or seize up, and its a far better prospect. The KR1's need careful building and blueprinting to last, and the RGV self destructs taking out the cylinders and probably the cran and rods, if you dont replace all the top end parts before they start wearing out. A blow up on either of these will cost loads more to sort than an RD350 motor would. 2 new or re-plated cylinders every time?
The liners in the RD also have enough metal in them to allow a 375cc overbore, and im sure ive heard of RD's running at 398cc also. a good std one should make 50bhp at the back wheel, 59bhp at the crank, but a 62bhp RGV still only makes usually 53bhp at the wheel, and it has alot less torque, and no midrange compared to the RD. 60bhp at the wheel from an RD is an easy tune, and 70bhp is still reasonable in reliability. The motor can go alot further than that though with expensive TZ350 parts, and 85bhp is quite possible then.
As for the BDK RGV500 its not as close a GP500 experience as Mark Dents RGV570, his makes at least another 10bhp and weighs about 130kg roughly. It's still got an RG chassis though, so its handling is limited, who with an engine like that who the hell cares!

Anand, very impressive machine you have there!

I bet its a beast to ride, all that power in such a light frame.

I noticed you've removed the kickstart, I'm guessing its bump start only now?
