Is there any way to connect a tablet / phone screen to a TV wirelessly and without any extra hardware?

I remember a while back there was an app, which I forget the name of (something like Clik) and if you displayed a special QR code on any screen, you scanned it with your phone/tablet and it let you control that screen with a special YouTube app so you could browse YT on screen with your device.

I'm thinking of something like this or similar?

Do you want to control the TV with the phone or stream media from the phone to a TV?

I stream media from my nexus 7 to my ps3 so I can watch movies. I have to do this as my TV can't wirelessly detect media servers. A smart TV can though.

The app is literally called "media server" on the Google play store.... Free.

Sorry, should of put more info:

Android devices and want to stream media from a tablet to a TV.

It's for my brother who's living in Ibiza at the moment and has an Android tablet which he uses to catch up on UK TV shows. He's got a TV but I don't think it's a smart TV.

He wants to be able to stream the video content to the TV screen wirelessly.

I know you don't want the hardware but I use one of these mate.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370861601243?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Comes with airplay so you can stream anything on your phone to it, also comes with XBMC so you can install icefilms/1channel etc. and stream loads of pirate movies/tv shows, The hardware is so good you can even play Black ops/Dead trigger at full FPS.

Not that I don't want to use hardware, was wondering if it's possible without it.

Do you need to have the air mouse separately to control that?

https://www.clikthis.com/

This was the size, you need the Clik app on your phone, you scan the QR code on the site and you can control the screen with your phone but it's only limited to Youtube for now I think.

I just use my phone to control xbmc, or you can use a wireless keyboard/mouse.

How responsive is the XBMC menu system on that vs. something like the Raspberry Pi? Any network lag getting large folders of content off a NAS?

Just look at the hardware specs compared to the Pi mate, it's a lot more powerful, IIRC the Pi only has 256mb of ram. With this hardware you can easily stream 1080p.

CEC work with that MK808B?

Edit:

No one's mentioned Miracast yet. Depending on if the tablet supports it of course, it's wifi screen mirroring. If his tv doesn't support it then there's always the Netgear PTV3000. I hear it was dog shit when it first come out but since firmware updates it's alright..Apparently.

I'd go with XBMC on a Pi or any other device over that thing any day of the week.

Sadly paper spec lists aren't always a good benchmark, first hand experience wins out every time Laughing

Was a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 I gave my brother for when he fucked off travelling.

Definitely didn't have HDMI, or even a full USB if I remember, was micro.

No it's not, as far as I know there's no tablet available with a UHF transmitter built in.

MHL Adaptor might work, seen some conflicting things after a quick google. May depend on weather it's a 7" or 10.1".

does the sd in your phone/tablet get recognised as a mass storage device when you plug into your computer or do you need to load drivers?

most TV's now have usb input you might get lucky and be able to view your media files on the device over the TV's usb connection.

I know it isn't exactly what you wanted but at least you should be able to watch stuff already saved, I did used to have an rgb cable for an ipod to display video on a tv maybe they have them for other stuff too.
