hi guys,

I havenbeen looking at a couple of different bike on auto trader and these guys keep turning up with what look like descent bikes.

Don't know why but alarm bells are ringing. Confused

Has any body had any dealings with them or got a bike there.

Pretty crap looking website, why not go and visit their shop for real?

Seems odd that they're claiming to be one of the largest in Europe, yet have such a shocking web presence.

Seem to be trying to get you to take finance, and their photos have signage from another website that's down at the moment. bike543.co.uk.

Very odd.

Cheaper and free shipping.

These people sound similar to the scammers that will book your driving theory or practical tests for an extortionate price.

Steer clear

My take is that they're a genuine lot who used to do the more typical bric-a-brac style of just selling bikes here and there, more as a hobby, then it got more serious, they tried to make a business of it, then went to a shit web design company who made a terrible website and tried to give them pointers in the way of how to run the business too. Hence shite website and really strange, confusing and off-putting finance talk.

In the end they're just people selling bikes, no different to any others. But the website is terrible, so... I'M! OOT!

Went along to somanybikes at their mill premises whilst visiting the folks at Christmas. The Bike 543 premises appears to have shut down and moved down the road, now as somanybikes...for reasons unknown.

Massive showroom with lots of bikes..I was looking at a blade which seemed to be in good nick, though I didnt ask for it to be started etc.

The little bloke who was there looked (and I apologise for this) less than professional..I used to live there so am familar with the territory. That said, he was polite and helpful.

However, two things put me off. 1) He didnt ride himself, which always makes me suspicious of both motives and empathy for those of us on two wheels for whom a mechanical problem at speed is more serious than for car users.
2) he told me to hurry up and buy if I wanted it a prices "go up on 1 January". This was rubbish and it hasnt actually happened with the bike I was looking at.

This put me off buying but I suppose it may not have been his normal job. Not sure what to do now as the bike is pretty nice. Might call again and speak with someone else...might not bother though.

Got my first ever bike from them. Wish I'd gone elsewhere.
Nice choice, picked one out, sat down to do the paperwork. Asked what he could do for cash. Nothing on the price but threw in the £199 1 yr warranty. Starts filling out the paperwork then he mentions the £82.50 admin fee. I should've stood my ground but, as they probably planned, I was hooked on the bike.
Asked for a test ride but was told no because I hadn't had a bike licence over two years.
Arranged to collect the following Thursday but was told they had found a problem with the forks, come back Sunday.
Rode the bike home and found the front brakes were juddering and squealing. Rang up and was told to email the mysterious Karen.
Got a cut n paste reply about making sure I had used an approved garage.
Rang back and was told she doesn't speak to people. This is the head of customer service bear in mind. Read other threads online doubting her existence as no one has ever met her (hence the mysterious).
Told the guy on the phone that it hadn't been to a garage. He proceeds to tell me how to remove the brake pads.
Stopped him and patiently told him the bike had been from theirs to mine and I had the 1 yr warranty.
Threatened legal action.
Only then did he arrange for the bike to be picked up.
Poorest after sales I have ever dealt with.

In the full knowledge that this is a necrothread.

Company number: 5509357 = "CARBAY LIMITED"

https://companycheck.co.uk/company/05509357

A rapid ramp-up of both assets and liabilities in 2014.

Director is Mr Gary Cheetham, doesn't appear to have an easy-to-find dodgy history.

Formed 2005, currently celebrating "20 years of success". Eh?

They do appear to have form for discovering faults while 'preparing' bikes, sometimes when the buyer is en route.

The usual "Trade Sale - No Warranty" bikes, which of course they know is essentially a meaningless disclaimer if they sell them to a private buyer. Rolling Eyes

Eh, probably no worse than any other bunch of buy-'em-cheap, pile-'em-high, sell-'em-as-minters merchants.
