R & G Bar ebds not fitting?

Heya, just got some R&G Bar ends for my 600 Bandit. looks a simple screw in jobbie. When It come to screwing them in, the screw goes in so far and then just spins and the bar ends wont tighten up.

Any advice?

Assuming they're the correct size for the bars; pull them out, hold the end that goes inside and tighten the screw until it's a squeeze to push them back inside the bar. There should then be enough friction to hold them in position while you finish tightening the screw.

My bars have a long metal weight in and the bar ends screw into them.
Make sure, if the weights are in there, that the bolt can reach them. Can you use the bolts from the old bar ends?

I found with some aftermarket bar ends on my ZX6 they didn't work with the bolts that came with them and required the original bolts [if you haven't tryed with those yet].

Is the bolt reaching and beginning to tighten into the thread, just not fully so the bar ends are spinning/loose, or the bolt itself is loose Question

I had to put tiny plastic washers in front of my bar ends as it wouldn't go in far enough to tighten the bar ends, so they tightened down onto the washers, but i'm not sure if thats the same case from the way your post reads.

Heya, Thanks for your replies.

The bolt goes in through the Bar ends and then screws into the handles. It will catch and screw in to a certain point and then the alan key will just end up spinning and not tightening anymore.

If you let go the bar end will not fall off as the bolt in in enough to hold it on but only just, it sits at an angle resting on the bolt with a couple mm gap between the bar ends and the handles.

The original bolts I've taken out are very slightly thicker and slightly shorter, but the R&G bar ends I've got say they fit all bandits up to 2002 and mines a 98 :/

Sounds to me like the weight your bar end screws into is itself spinning.

Can you see it in the handlebar?

I'll have to check tommorrow to see if I can see anything and get back to you.

GetGeared have told me I need to call them to speak to someone who can help, So I guess I'll have to do that if all else fails.

Ok basically what I've found out is that the shorter bolts in the pack are actually slightly too short and the long ones are way too long.

I am thinking they need to be roughly around 65mm in length but its soo hard to find that lenth in an M12 countersink socket/allen bolt from anywhere, even online and ebay. :/

What thinking about cutting down the long oneto see if I can make it the right size.

I've cut one down and the right bar end is on and feels secure although the bar end itself does spin if you twist it, is that normal?

The left side I cut down and it seems that it needs to be longer than the right side to catch. So now I don't have a bolt to as the other shorter ones in the box are too short also. I'm going to order a couple longer bolts from somewhere myself.

If I measured correctly I think I need M12 and at least 70mm length to cut down to fit. Not sure what grades R & G Use though but stainless steel A2-70 should be fine right?

Probably be a lot easier and save risking any hassle with having dodgy threads from cutting the bolts to just get some new ones, try a local metalworks/engineering shop and try get some accurate measurements of the length you need they'll probably have something suitable.

Are you sure that you are measuring the thread size correctly?
I'm not familiar with your bike but I would have thought that M6 or M8 would be nearer the mark.

You are definitely measuring wrong, M12 would be ridiculous.

They will very likely be M6.

oopsy I guess I didn't measure it right. (You can tell I haven't got a clue with this type of thing lol)

It looks to be a M6 Measuring the diameter of the bolt.

Thing is that the length they need to be is somewhere between 60-65mm.
