Has anybody got any experience of these machines ? I'm looking for a light trailie with a low seat and all the others appear to be far too tall for a shortarse like me. The alternatives are oldies like KE175 and the like but the old bikes are becoming increasingly rare and £3200 for a new 250 seems like a good buy.

Its not for serious off roading more to cope with the god awful roads around here Smile

I've looked on past posts but the Rieju only gets passing mention a few times has anyone actually ridden one ?

Ta in advance......

Think the seat will be too high still. Its almost 35 inches. Might see if I can sit on one though. Its also a lot heavier. Ta though I'll have a look.

Gas gas Pampera?
2 stroke version comes in at a 'real' 100kg with plenty enough easy to use power from it's trials derived engine.
Plenty low for a dirt bike.

It's got proper sized wheels if I remember - while the Tango has smaller wheels.

Also, the spec sheet says it's a 125 - so I wouldn't entirely trust it Smile.

Well I'd not looked at those so thanks. Not terribly easily available and a bit too specialised for me I think though. Laughing

They are a bit rare - but what exactly do you want this bike for?

Well many moons ago I had an XL125 and I fancied a multi use machine that was quite light for using on our increasingly pot holed roads and maybe a little bit of green laning but be mainly road use. Also want a machine that's light enough that I'm not worried about dropping it when we have snow. The GPZ500 I can pick up but its an effort.

Do you need the whole 16hp?
Something like a YBR125 would likely be as fast and probably similarly capable off road with appropriate tyres.
Presuming you're spending a fair bit less, you could easily get a spare set of wheels for dirt riding and have some better dirt tyres on them.

Or, frankly, with the change you could get a pampera for dirt specific riding.

I've ridden a pampera around town generally and it's ok. But is a bit more dirt focused.

Incidentally, in some areas they did do a off-road specific YBR, though I think they just added a couple of bash guards and different tyres Smile.

I had a YBR125 as an insurance loan last year and it was just so gutless to be no fun at all. As nobody here seems to have ridden the Rieju I guess my best bet is to see if I can get a test ride. There's a dealer half an hours ride away I'll pop down and see if they'll let me.

Thanks anyway everyone.

It may have 50% more power, but I'd still consider it pretty gutless. Also, it's quite possible it'll be worse at speed, or at least lose the power advantage; as the mph goes up, it becomes power to aerodynamics rather than power to weight that matters.

They did do a 4 stroke pampera too, but for the money I can't help feeling you could get more suitables bikes for you purposes and still have a good chunk left over to go and play with, spend on coke and hookers or whatever Smile.

The big problem I had with the loan bike (and I suppose it might have just been that bike) was that the acceleration was awful and it struggled to get anywhere over 55mph. I dont ride everywhere at 70mph but that just led to being continually cut up by car drivers.

My 60hp KTM weighs less than the Varadero Wink.
Ok, I have got an even higher seat on the KTM, so may not be ideal for the OP when on ice - though the studded tyres may make up for that Smile.

Anyway; if you're not massive, a YBR should manage at least 65 on the flat.
A fairly petite friend found hers was actually faster than her bloke who was on a MT350!

Around 200 at 85mph or so - probably a lot more at 70mph, as tall bikes get really bad as the speed goes up.

I'm only 10 stone I guess the loan bike was just crap although it only had a few thousand on the clock as far as I recall. I'd still rather have a few more horses anyway Wink

Yea, sounds like a duff-un. Probably a little too abused by other people who have a 'hire bike' etc.

When looking at something else, I was reminded other bikes you should consider:
The Honda CRF230, Scorpa T-Ride and KTM freeride.

All offer soft engines with less weight than normal trail bikes.
The TTR250 is also low and is listed at 113kg, however people have got them closer to 100 by dropping a few bits etc.

Quite the Rieju when I rode it. Well built, was an RS not a Tango, but still. Decent brand IMHO.

There is a 125 and 250 version. Was considering the 250 back when I passed my test, but our local Rieju dealers a twunt and there was nowhere else easy to get too for a test ride with Riejus.

I see your near London, if you get one, dont buy it from Motorbike Warehouse in Harrow. Thumbs Up

You should try the CRF250L - it is low as trailie types go and sinks down a bit more when you are on it.
It's getting great reviews, Honda will sell squillions as the price is good too.

I've never heard much bad about Reiju, they do some of the sportier learner bikes. I would class them as on par with the likes of Aprilia/Gilera/Derbi for small capacity bikes.
