Loosen the adjusters (near lever and the nuts on the engine casing). Run your new cable through the frame and yokes alongside the old one having dripped oil down the middle first if necessary (some have coated outers that don't need oiling), this saves head scratching over how to route it later.
You should now be able to pull the cable outer out of the lever clamp and turn it to face forwards then wiggle the nipple out of the lever, the parts are slotted to allow you to remove the cable, self-explanatory when you look at it. Now unhook the nipple at the bottom and remove the old cable. If the top nipple is stuck in, you sometimes need to lever it out with an old screwdriver or in the worst case (if it is really stuck), drill a small hole through the top of the lever above the nipple and drift it through with a nail.
Hook up the bottom of the new cable, leave the adjuster loose. Push the top nipple into the lever and hook the outer back into the clamp. If there is not enough slack, you might need to take the lever off to do this then reattach it. Leave the top adjuster at its loosest setting and tension the cable using the bottom adjuster so there is about 6mm of free play on the lever. After a while the cable will have bedded in and stretched a bit, you can then adjust it using the top adjuster without needing tools.
Put copper grease on the exposed cable, adjuster screw threads and nipples to prevent things seizing from corrosion. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Thanks for that one, I'm about to undertake the same thing on the NSR and needed some tips. Cheers ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/fuzzbcf/
