Anyone know a trick to lobotomize this new style of bios?
We've bought an Ace Aspire 5600U system at work, it's a 23inch touchscreen Windows8 PC that has arrived with a pre-installed copy of windows8 "home" edition, which cannot connect to a windows domain.
As this is even more useless than we tried to explain to our Boss that it would be, we've bought a separate copy of Windows 8 "Pro" x64, intending to overwrite the installation, we then got to learn all about this new UEFI bios crap.
We've found the bios settings to disable the "secure boot" mode, and the option to "Clear secure boot keys", but we're still not able to re-install the new OS, it keeps reverting to the windows key that is apparently still in the bios, telling us that we're not licensed for the Pro version and reverting back to the home version.
We've even tried a work-around that we found on the net based on installing the new version from a usb key and using a text file on the key drive with the new serial number in that is supposed to force the new key into the bios during install, and that didn't work.
Anyone come up against this issue and managed to successfully upgrade? ____________________ Well, I've wrestled with reality for 35 years, Doctor, and I'm happy to state I finally won out over it. - Elwood P. Dowd |

No, I don't know, and - I do apologise - fuck you right in the eye, twice, for rewarding someone selling treacherous computing crippled systems. Thou hath reapedeth what thou hath sown. Eth. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
