Hi there guys, I've been on a 125 scoot for a while and fancy a cruiser Jianshe JS125-6C, I thought to cut costs and have a bit of fun, I'd see if i can ride one back to Aberdeen from Portsmouth.
As I see it, I only need them to post the reg documents to me a week before i pick it up with the number plate and tax disc in hand... ((30 pound on megabus)
The lady on the phone laughed, told me i was joking, then hung up when i said i wasn't joking...
Sooo, anyway round this? get a local bike shop to pick up (pricey) or something?

*le sigh*

Firstly it's "They're" as in "They are", "Their" refers to a possesion e.g. "One minute their Chinese bike was there, the next it was a pile of rust".

I don't profess to have excellent grammar, but misusing they're, their and there can be quite annoying. (Oh and I've has an apostrophe, as does it's)

Secondly, many members on here have had negative experiences with Chinese hunks of shit, oh sorry, I mean "bikes".

Yes, some are OK but they still need far more maintenance and looking after then most of the equivalent hondas/Yamaha's. There are hundreds if not thousands of 20+ year old CG125's on the road today. In 20 years time is your 2007 Chinese 125 going to still be on the road? I seriously doubt it.

As for riding a Chinese cruiser, well, apart from being more homosexual then this guy: https://cdn.deguisetoi.fr/images/rep_articles/gra/de/deguisement-de-l-ouvrier-homme-des-village-people_172035.jpg It's probably no where near reliable enough to get you back home in a day.

Having just looked up on google maps the trip from Aberdeen to Portsmouth excluding the use of motorways it's 613 miles which is about 13 hours 44 mins if you we're able to do 70 on the A1. Since your top speed will be about 55 MPH it'll take you a damn site longer.

All in all, I'm not surprised she laughed at you, I'd laugh at you too (in fact, I am).

How about (since you're over the age of 24) you do your test and get a real bike rather then wasting your money playing around on tiddlers.

If you really want to do that trip on a 125 choose a Varadero or at the very least something like a CG or YBR. I rode my Sanya 125 flat out for about 10 miles and had to stop cos the vibrations were making my hands hurt.
Seriously, it might sound like an adventure in your head, but it really won't be.

I say do it.

The naysayers speak the truth tho; they aren't built for endurance. They aren't really built for anything much past a daily commute.

You could manage it in a couple of days probably, although I'd take a toolkit containing several sparkplugs and enough oil for a complete change should it spring a leak. Take plenty of breaks.

Realistically the top speed will be about 50-55, and of course you can't use motorways.

If all goes wrong, at least you could get the train home.

The same thing was said about my Sanya, the engine was fine in it but OH MY GOD it was nothing like a YBR to ride.

Hmm.

First, that "lady" is apparently bang tidy, so Thumbs Up to "going down" there, IYKWIM.

I'd get on the chaps on the "Huoniao Owners" forum who have a working relationship with LL. They may be able to persuade them that you're TOTES SRS and are prepared to ride the bike away, all legal like.

I would suggest that you plan for a Mototune Method run-in, i.e. ride it like you stole it, and then do an oil change at 20 miles, however you can arrange that. Probably no biggy if you ride it up to Shaggertoon and do the first change there though, but every fraction of a horsepower will count.

I've a very similar bike, same engine. Done 14,000km so far, no problems. Thrashed it on day 1 for 2 hours.

That being said, you're not going to run it in unless you keep below 50mph and below 6,000rpm. Not possible. Plus you'd need to do an oil change half way through your journey.

Rogerborg posted a link some times ago, about running in engines by ragging them for 50 miles, then changing the oil, ragging 200 miles and changing again. Or something like that Smile

Twist & Go mag did the same journey on a brand new Lexmoto Street. It made it fine. Averaged 120MPG or something.

The Jianshe is much nicer on A-Roads with 15t front sprocket though. Out the crate its under geared, you run out of rev's too soon.
If you do make it, you'll be deaf Smile

Also, for me, the seat is a struggle after 9 hours.

EDIT: Shit, sorry, forgot to say. This is a brilliant idea! Something I'm thinking about, maybe next year. Good luck! Have fun!

Thing is, when there's a will there's a way.

If you're serious about this, plan the route to a T. I cut my teeth riding a Chinese HT125 through a Scottish winter before sitting my test. This bike was 4 years old at the time and didn't miss a beat (besides the chain freezing in place) throughout 4k miles of shit weather.

You won't do it in a day, that's a fact. Although the bike is reasonably comfortable, your arse will not thank you for it.

Ultimately you will make it home and save the carriage from Portsmouth. Whether you save money doing it this way over couriering it is up to you.

Take a toolkit and a tent, you will need at least one stopover.
ignore the naysayers, I have a 56 plate Chinese Sukida, that has done 10000 miles (16000k) and only had 1 advisory on the last MOT.
I say go for it! Thumbs Up Mr. Green Thumbs Up

Is it really worth going all that way for THAT bike? (can you not buy one near to home?) I mean if it was a 125 like an old cb twin with some character and you wanted it for a particular reason, then I think the long trip home would be justified, as well as being an adventure.

But for THAT bike!? by the time you get back to Aberdeen it will already be be halfway in to it's working life, and it will be rusting and you will have to spend most of it at 30-40 mph if you want the bike to work properly in the long run.

Plus, from my experience with one, I think no one should ever buy a chinese bike new (apart from a Sinnis, some lexmotos or an AJS eco maybe)

What, you mean the AJS Eco made by Jianshe-Yamaha? The same bike (Eco Custom) as the OP is planning on buying for a few hundred less?

I bought a Chinese 125 scrambler from that address back in 2008 (they weren't called Learner Legal then, just and eBay shop). It was a sketchy looking warehouse, no shop or even front door, very strange, living locally at the time so went with it as I knew I could go straight back if it was a con.

Brand new for £600ish. It came in a box, had a mate build it having taken it home in the car and it was alright. Used it for a summer and then flogged it for £500, can't say how long it lasted after that but it was ok for the 1000 miles I put on it. Not sure how confident I'd have felt trundling up the country on it though.

You mean the YBR that's essentially the same bike as the Jianshe-Yamaha that the OP is after?

I can do this aaaaall day. Wink
