anyone use them for taking calls when riding (not just listening to music) or does the wind noise make it hard work??

It's not a problem to hear the other person talking... they are never able to hear you though Smile

you say that but if you put a bit of tape over Sony Ericsson headphones mic, you can hear them and they can hear you at 60 (if you jam it in the front vent of the helmet.

I tried something like that not long ago. It was very convenient, but only worked well enough for a conversation when I was moving slowly or stopped. As for taping the mic over, didn't think of that. I do know that iPhones use noise cancelling tech with 2 built in mics to make your voice clearer though. But that's overriden by a headset.

Mind you you do need to shout, but what do you expect you are on a bike!

Quick look on ebay shows some £40ish bluetooth jobbies I'm wondering if they be better. Or just cheap.

I soldered a pair of the ear bud type earphones onto my phone headset. The ear buds block most of the road/wind noise even at speed.
The microphone just needs to be velcro'd into the front of the helmet, should work OK, mine did.

If you tape the mic to your larynx, they should hear you no matter how fast your going.

You can now get proper bluetooth 'throat microphones' for not too silly money, or even less for a wired version.

I had one a few years ago, a 'roadrunner' bluetooth something or other.
The hardest part was trying to hear them through the earpiece, yet they can hear you at crazy speeds, minus the noise of traffic, or bike. They hear you like your sat down in yer armchair.

Thing is, it's not really designed with helmets in mind and the earpiece wire came apart within no time. For daily commuting - this really isn't practical?

What I've seen before you can get also is a little bluetooth box you plug you microphone and headphones in to - with one of those you can then use a throat mic and your favourite bike headphones.
